All About Pocket Knives

Hello everyone! I’m very new to all of this, and knives in general really. I’ve spent the past few days trying to find info on this piece. I really only came across one solid guide to get some info about the company that made it but am having a hard time dating it, and figuring out if it’s carbon or stainless- the main blade has RUSTLESS SCY on it- after extensive googling I cannot figure out what the SCY means. The guide I found is called “The Eye Brand Guide” by Mark Cole. I’ve attached some photos of my knife in decent detail. Hopefully this is the appropriate place to post this- if not I apologize.

Your knife was made by Carl Schlieper Cutlery in Germany and cast in stone facts on these knives are hard to find. I can tell you that it is stainless and the SCY is their patter number. The company began putting pattern numbers on their knives in 1979 and this particular tang stamp was used for the 2nd time beginning in 1981. I believe your knife will date after 1981 and best guess is about the mid-1980s. It is not clear to me when they began using the one eye etch but it does place your knife outside the dates of the 3 Eye knives.
The particular stainless used by Schlieper's Eye Brand is unknown but it is quite good when compared to the early stainless used in the cutlery industry at the time.
From the photos, your knife looks to be in mint to near mint condition, altho it would be better assessed in hand.

That knife is a beautiful Whittler pattern, an absolutely gorgeous example of a great cutlery company.
