New York Knife Question

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

New York Knife Question

Post by cody6268 »

I noticed Cooper Cutlery is currently making knives with a New York Knife Co. stamp; which as I understand, was one of the companies that, eventually, became IKAC/Imperial Schrade Corp.

I am wondering, was it a trademark that stayed with Schrade until '04, or was it something that lapsed? As I'd assume Taylor thus still has those trademarks.

Cody I believe Cooper owns that trademark now, which seems so ridiculous to me as he's in Ohio and has zero relationship to NY Knife Co. I know Imperial kept the Hammer Brand trademark up but I don't know if they ever used the New York Knife Co name themselves.

ISC used the New York Knife Co trademark on some knives - for example the limited run Scout knife anniversary knives, and the stag handled patterns made for SMKW.

I was surprised to see Cooper using the trademark.
