All About Pocket Knives

Going to Gatlinburg this weekend on business, gotta keep the wheels of commerce turnin' in my direction.
We won't be leaving til Sunday 5th. or Monday morning. Depends on what the Boss sezs.

I always get to stop by SMKW on the way.
I usually go by the Antique knife & razor counters first, then over to the book area, maybe take a couple of photo's, then start looking for the Boss.
I am also going to check on their Counterfeit display and see how that's going and what I can find out about mine this time. More on that later.

I have attached a couple of photo's of some displays, if you never/ever got to go.
In the picture on the wall: I have that knife in the top left hand corner. It is a Standard Knife Co. re-introduced/made from 1920-1948 by Case.
Kinfolks made this brand for W. R. Case & Sons from 1926 to 1928 and KaBar made them in the late 1930's. My guess is from the 30's because of the can opener, but the bone looks like Case to me. I will post a picture of it later also.

If you are looking for something special, I'll check it out for you. If it is Real Special, I got a walkin' phone. We can work out the details, I'm sure.

That the plan also.
We stopped by back in September and they were working on the backside. Kinda looked like in the dry. Plus they had the inside roped off in some areas. I'll post some photo's here if I can.

Here the my knife photo's promised, hope you like them.

The poster is above the coke machines downstairs. There is another poster/photo hanging in one other place. Next time you are there see if you can find it!

9 Ball, Never been down that'a way to SMKW . Would you plz impart the uneducated as to what "special" is offered there. You mentioned the antique razor section. Does the store have vintage knives for sale?? Case Classics ? Any other items of interest to you or anyone not familiar?? Thanks much-Glenn

There are alot of displays in there from old factories and displays of old knives and related items from around the world.
There is a area with vintage knives and razors & they usually have a good selection for sale.
I have never seen/looked for any Case Classics, I really do not look at the newer stuff. To me, it is more of a museum than a knife store.
The Boss likes it because they have stuff for the home, i.e. cooking, decorating that kind of thing in the lower level. I have been going there 20+ years, even before they moved into this new building and always find something different/new. At one time, it was located down the road toward Gatlinburg and was more of an antique mall. That building is still there, but closed up. I have always taken photo's of the display's for reference, this digital stuff sure makes it easy.
Their website does not do it justice, nor show it all.

I hope to get away and go the Parker's Show this week, I believe it is #30??????? and I will stop by SMKW, if it is not too late coming home and see if they do sell Classics.

I read somewhere the NKCA was going to have a grand opening when they open that part up. That is when I look for them to start charging dollars to go in there. It would take more than one or two days to go thru.
I will say that after looking at some of "The Texas Collector" collection/knives here, I have been thinking about getting a couple to put back, Classics that is.

BTW: SMKW ain't the only knife shop around, there are a few other's along the way. They just don't have the PR.

Rack Boy, oops I meant 9Ball, what day are you going to the Parker show I'm going to try to go Friday, would rather go Sat. but they are having an auction close by the house with a knife collection in the estate to be sold, I dont want to miss that. By the way I posted you some info on metal detector's on the forum but I dont think you saw it, if you need any info on what the guys I dig with use for Civil War Relics just let me know !

Forgot to say that they sell fossils and have a large display and also sell/have Indian artifacts now. Most of that stuff is from Pipes personal collection or that is what I was told. There was a leather smith set up and I remember seeing what looked like a snack bar, but did not investigate.

Voyles is having a knife auction tonight and one tomorrow night at The Grand. Is your auction the one listed in last Sunday's (6/4) Knoxville newspaper?
Boss suggested I go tomorrow. I have got to go into Knoxville in the morning and then may drive up after that, if possible.
Maybe we can get together and play our game?

Thanks much for the info, seems like smkw is the RAJ (pilgrimage to Mecca) of knife-collecting religon. I live just acrros the state line about 70mi north of Chicago.Have you found the folks there to be congenial ?, willing to help,etc ??
You also mention " a couple of other outlets " in your post, where are they? Seems like the trip for me would be all about spending and I need afew more years (?) under the belt b4 that kinda commitment.

Thanks yerout, I have talked to several people and dealers they did not have any. These things seem to be harder to catch then a junebug in a wind storm.

I'm pretty sure the Christmas Tree jigging is a Smoky Mountain exclusive, but I don't know if they even made a Seahorse. I'd think you could email/call them and check.
