All About Pocket Knives

Trying to help a friend with age of Robeson knife that belonged to his grandfather. My friend is 70, so I know it wasn't made yesterday.
It has 2 blades.
The large blade reads " Robeson Shuredge, Rochester, NY, and has "62205" stamped at base of blade
The small blade reads " Robeson Cutlery
Notice the insets at the end of each blade. Don't know if this was factory, or the grandfather's handiwork

I have read up on the Robeson numbering system, but it doesn't help much with the date.

I've been looking online for several hours, but keep coming up empty, until I found this forum. Hope there's someone out there who can help.

Welcome to AAPK. You just didn’t look around here enough. Here’s the info you’re seeking viewtopic.php?t=39003. Scroll down until you find the tang stamp from your knife. The picture you posted is a little dark and out of focus so I worked on it a little to enhance it - hope you don’t mind.

Recommend you use the “lead” aka graphite end of a pencil on the tang stamp to clean it up a little so it’s easier to read. Pencil lead is harder than rust or tarnish but softer than blade steel, so it will remove the tarnish without damage to the blade.

There are some Robeson experts here who may comment further. One is the author of the post linked above.

Robeson used a six digit pattern number , but often omitted a zero on patterns 001 through 099, so the actual pattern number on your knife is 622005, and early pattern being the fifgh to receive a number when they instituted the system in about 1903.

Tom Kalcevic, a Robeson historian of note, in Knives Can Talk, estimates the date of the master blade stamp on your knife at 1911 to 1921.
