Fake Case Tested stag folding hunter

Post by Mumbleypeg »

This one is not right. At best it has for sure been rehandled. Sambar stag wasn’t used in the Tested era. The shield looks like a shield on a U.S.A. dotted era knife. Definitely not a Tested era shield. Looks like maybe a 50 pattern blade in a 65 pattern frame, or a 65 SAB? Not a pattern I collect so some of you may see other things.

Not sure if the blade is actually a good Tested blade of some sort or not but the fame and handles certainly aren't from any Case Tested knife. Counterfeit's on eBay are an ever increasing number and the inaccuracies in eBay knife descriptions are dizzying.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

you know Wayne, I couldn’t agree more and all that can be done about it is to make smart buying decisions. I used to do site-wide searches on eBay but now I limit my searches to trusted sellers. I know I’m probably missing out on some dandy knives but my eBay experience is greatly improved plus I’m only casually looking for that occasional unicorn. YMMV

It is a good rehandle job. If only the knife were described as and priced as a rehandle knife (at the least).
There are so many counterfeits out there that I personally will not buy a used Case online unless it is a bottom-dollar parts knife.

Sure is a pretty knife, but correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't the white part of that stag look like its been heated with a torch or dyed in some way? I don't think they did that kind of stuff in the Tested era. The whole thing looks way too new for me.

They probably would have had a better look with Potassium Permanganate. That torched stag doesn't look quite right on that knife.
