All About Pocket Knives

Maybe I've been a bit snobbish about collecting. I'm partial to the quality brands like Catt, LFC, Valley Forge, you know the list. Colonial was always the low-priced, everyday-Joe knife on a card display. Not that I don't have a bunch of them but they've always been in the 3rd-string of my collection. This knife below has really changed my thinking. It's as nice a knife as you'd want. A buddy and big-time Case collector gave it to me and I've really taken a serious liking to it. 4 inch Delrin (or whatever Colonial called their plastic ? ), two very nice and sharp blades. The main clip has a great swedge and both are long pull. The faux bone/stag is a pleasant facsimile of the real stuff and shows very minimal shrinkage, considering it's probably 60 plus years old. The fit and finish are very good too. It reminds me of a knife my father kept in his top dresser drawer in the early fifties with his work keys and cigarettes. He called it bone-handled but my memory says different. (?). Anyway, this 2 blade stockman is solidly built, tight, and snappy. Certainly no 3rd string quality issues here.

I have a few, and enjoy them. Colonial made some good knives. Many of theirs had cheaply made handles and a snap-in shell bolster, but they did not skimp on the steel or the heat treatment.
And some, like their "Old Cutler" line of knives are really nice, high-quality knives.

I have a couple in my EDC rotation. The bottom one is a shell handled knife, but it feels more secure than a lot of the Imperials I have had in my hands. The other one has solid bolsters and a three-spring design. Not a knife I go looking for, but I don't turn up my nose at them, either.
