Re: 2024 AAPK Club Knife Information
Mine arrived to my PO Box the day after Christmas but I wasn't able to pick them up until yesterday.
I like the Kingwood handles; both of mine have nice grain and color. I also like how slender they are...assumed they would be thicker like a #47.
Now, I am not complaining nor am I asking for suggestions on how to "fix" my issue, this is merely an observation and a question about the finish on other's knives because I must admit that I am a little bit disappointed with the finish on mine. Both blades, front and back, are covered with micro scratches, and both shields, in addition to the fingernail-width gaps around the edges, also have micro scratches which, unfortunately, detract from what I was expecting to be a highly polished mirror finish. IMO, the scratches kind of defeat the purpose of the mirror finish for which we waited extra weeks while GEC fixed its broken polishing equipment. I can make the scratches somewhat less noticeable in photographs by changing the light and camera angle, but, of course, I can't make them disappear when I look at the knives while holding them in my hand. I haven't noticed scratches on anyone else's knives in any of the photos that have been posted but I am curious if anyone else's knives have micro scratches like mine that didn't show up in their photos? Is it possible that I got the only two AAPK club knives that somehow managed to slip past GEC's quality control, or does GEC quality control consider this acceptable?
Again, I am not complaining, I'm somewhat disappointed but overall happy with the knives I received, just curious about the finish on others.

Curious to see how others reply…..I may need to pose this question to GEC on Monday….. mine is an “S” second-grade knife that does have micro scratches on the blade and bolster.

Re: 2024 AAPK Club Knife Information
Tried to get poses with different angels and distance, and lighting. If I play around and really try some faint lines are visible, but barely. I don't see anything like Q is showing. I think that pair maybe didn't get inspected as closely, or rush job finishing or something. I would be disappointed Q, I hear you there. And while cosmetic, many of the knives, if not all that I've seen posted don't show long sweeping scratches like Q just posted. I also think GEC would correct that if notified. For an SFO you kind of expect better. But I can't complain or say I have an issue with how they finished mine.

Re: 2024 AAPK Club Knife Information
Yeah Q, my 2 knives are similar to yours. In bright light I didn't even notice. But in certain lighting, I can see the sweeping marks the same direction as in your photos. Both front and back, and over the shield. Seems maybe the buffing wheel they used that day had a bit too much grit in it.QTCut5 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 10:20 pm Now, I am not complaining nor am I asking for suggestions on how to "fix" my issue, this is merely an observation and a question about the finish on other's knives because I must admit that I am a little bit disappointed with the finish on mine. Mine has a few on the pile side that aren't seen except in the right angle and light. Even then you have to look hard to see the few that are there as they are very faint.

UPS just dropped mine off. I like it. Kudos to Bryan for a good choice and many thanks to Tom for handling all the shipping. My handles do not show as much variation as some of the others posted, but still beautiful wood.

Happy New Year everyone!
According to USPS tracking, all packages except 2 with California addresses have been successfully delivered. According to UPS tracking, all packages except 1 with a Canadian address have been successfully delivered.
I’m also working with another member whose PayPal address was incorrect and his knife was delivered to the wrong address.
Other than the exceptions noted above and 1 warranty claim for a damaged bolster, all other knives should be in the homes of the purchaser. IF THIS IS NOT THE CASE, PLEASE OPEN A PM DIALOGUE WITH ME.

Is it too soon to start thinking about/planning the 2025 club knife? I had a thought about maybe trying a new manufacturer like Cooper Cutlery
