Need help identifying knife

Hello. I’m new to the page and I’m not sure if I’m posting this in the right place.
My father gave me an automatic / trick knife today that was my grandfather’s. My dad said he remembered his father having it when he was a child, which should age this knife to the 40’s - 50’s.
The tang has XXV Patent on it, nothing else. I’ve searched the net including image searches and can find nothing. Has anyone seen one of these before?

Personally, I'm not familiar with your knife, but I'm almost certain another member posted the same model just a couple of days ago, exactly where I don't recall, but keep checking back to this thread because someone who knows your knife will eventually comment and hopefully answer your questions.
It's a cool little knife, I do know that!

The "Unusual Openers" thread doesn't actually identify the knife.
Here's what I found in my research of that particular model-
First, the marking is "JW", not "XXV".
The knife was made by the German cutlery company "Edmund Jansen & Weck" (the J & W), in Solingen, Germany.
They received a patent for the knife in 1904, but that doesn't mean it was made in 1904, it could have been made years later.
A listing from the "German Tool And Blade Makers" guide years 1850-2000

Thanks for the info. My grandfather fought in Normandy and the European theater in the Army. Perhaps he brought it back with him. I really appreciate the information.

That thread was created by a user named “beatsthestockmarket”. I wasn’t a member of this forum when that was posted and didn’t see that thread when I posted mine.

You're welcome. It's not much, there isn't much to be found about Jansen & Weck knives.
I'd say it's a rare knife. I have only seen two others, and I haven't been able to find any other Jansen & Weck knives. That leads me to believe that Jansen & Weck knives in general are rare.

Yup different guys, kinda nifty seeing two of very scarce knives surfacing close together. As it recall the scale insert rocks so you depress one end to open the knife. Double blade switch without a button. The knife in the other post doesn’t have a chip a blade.

That’s correct. Push one end to open one side, then Flip around push the other end and the other blade on the other end opens.
