Re: Schlieper? On eBay
I am far, far away from being an expert on older knives, but IMHO that is an obvious FAKE. The main blade tang stamp has been very sloppily modified(something has been sanded/ground off and not repolished) and the "Eye" on the bolster seems to have been amateurishly engraved with a Dremel tool. Some of the more erudite AAPKers may prove me wrong.

That knife is listed in Mark Cole’s Eye Brand Guide (2021) on page 27. I don’t know if Ray was a contributor as well, but want to cite my sources. And also thank them for this publication as it’s been very helpful.
According to the Eye Guide, the knife has been around since the late 1970’s. I assume it’s an Olbertz-made knife, given the secondary spay blade looks similar to those found on Fight’n Roosters.

Re: Schlieper? On eBay
Thanks for everyone’s input.
Having collected Schlieper for many years, I am used to seeing model variations and occasionally cosmetic imperfections. What throws me off on this one are the lack of a branded tang stamp, the fact that it’s only Schlieper Barlow I’ve seen with bone scales and as Bill pointed out, the iffy finishing on tang and blades. Also I have a couple of Eye Barlows with wood scales, straight stamps, rougher finishing, no bolster stamp and the pattern is different.
I appreciate the education.

Thanks for correcting my uneducated mistake. I would never have thought that was a real German knife. German quality control is normally much better than that.
