Split spring whittler. Must have been made before Bartlett joined the company? Mid 1850s I believe. Still snappy and no wobble.

That's awesome, Bill, I really like that one. Glad you quit slackin' and started to post again. It had been a while!

Bartlett joined the firm in 1882 so that knife would date between 1865 and 1882. Nice find!

Bartlett's rise is a classic success story of the time, he started there as a janitor in 1862 when the company was Tuttle, Hibbard and Co.

Very cool knife! What are the covers? They look like celluloid from here. I have always wondered when they started using celluloid on knives. Anyone know?

Thinks everyone for the comments,and information. I’m pretty sure it’s ivory. I’ve had it for several years and have never seen another one with that stamp.

Wow! Thanks for showing that, Bill. I agree with ivory covers. Wonderful old survivor, makes me curious who made it for them. Don’t know if you posted it before, but you can show it again next week as far as I’m concerned!

I actually gave that knife along with about 50 more about three years ago to my son and grandson. They gave them back to me except for five of them a few months ago. Just weren’t interested in them at all and didn’t want anything to do with them?? Go figure. Thanks again for the nice words.
