All About Pocket Knives

Anyone know anything about case knives in blister pack packaging? I see them on eBay. Did they come from a store? Appreciate any info.

Those are usually called blister packs. They are used to make shop lifting harder. The only place I've bought Case knives in blister packs was Wal-Mart. The Case knives I bought in blister packs were out in the middle of an isle on a table with other after Christmas Season close out items. I do not know if they were out where customers could handle them before they went on sale. Leading up to that Christmas season Wal-mart had blister packs containing three Chinese Remington knives and blister packs containing three Chinese Winchester knives on shelves where customers could handle them.

I prefer buying knives in small boxes for easy storage. I have bought Case knives in hinged clam shell containers that are similar to the hard cases sold for perscription glasses. Consider editing your thread's title.

No. Mine are very common American made 3254 SS Trappers with Delrin handles, one of Case's less expensive models, and I presume Wal-Mart's ability to buy huge quantities enabled wal-Mart to get a lower wholesale price.

I've seen that exact knife recently at Tractor Supply in the new knife case in sporting goods (in my store, opposite the coolers and BB guns). Same exact packaging.

On eBay they go for $40-$50. Assuming they were cheaper at Walmart and Tractor Supply. I’ll check them out. Thanks!

Except for its shield I think that's the same blue 6344 SS 3 1/4" Stockman that my local Tractor supply was selling in small boxes a few years ago. Tractor Supply's Case knives had their own shield with the outline of a barn and, IIRC, a tractor. Tractor Supply also had larger 6347 Stockmans and Case Trappers. Wal-Mart normally does not carry Case knives. The 3254 Trappers I described are the only Case knives I recall Wal-Mart having and Wally World only had them for that one Christmas.

Well fellers, there goes our opportunity to give a Case knife a once over before purchasing if they go whole-hog on the blister pack idea. Maybe it will remain for certain markets only.

Early last fall our local Tractor Supply did a renovation. In order to lower the amount of merchandise to be taken out to containers in the parking lot, they had a 50% off sale on their pocket knives. These were in boxes, kept in a rotating display on a countertop. I would say they carried a half dozen different Case patterns, maybe a couple more. Since the renovation, they now only stock the Case Sodbuster Jr in yellow, the 3254 Trapper in yellow, and the Medium Stockman in blue, as seen above. All are now hanging on view in the aisle in blister packs. Interestingly, a prospective buyer can self serve and remove a Sodbuster Jr from its hanging rod, but the rods upon which the more expensive Trappers and Stockmans hang are capped in such a way that it requires a sales clerk to remove one. I guess it's a sign of which ones thieves prefer.

I have seen those blister pack Case knives at Academy, Lowes, Tractor Supply etc. for several years.
Not a new thing. I doubt they are any different from the boxed products ...

A few years back I bought a Case single blade hunter with yellow handles and CV blade in a blister pack for a great price on Ebay. Also, all the wording was in Spanish. They had two for like $18 each; I should have gotten both.

Just because we are discussing them and it was not far out of my way I went into Tractor Supply to look at their Case knives. They had only one one hand opening knife, a Buck, four Multi-tools, four Bear & Sons slip joints and twelve Case traditional pocket knives. I like the local interest in traditionals. The Case knives were in boxes. The Case Tractor Supply shields were gone. I was shown one from their former stock that had that shield. Their old oval shield had the outline of a barn with CASE on its roof and T S above the door. Without a magnifying glass I could not read the bar shield on the blue 6344 Stockman and I can not read the one in the first post. What is written on it?

I was tempted by a new Case. AAPK would be responsible for the loss of $80 but I doubted AAPK management would make good on my loss.

looks like CASE X USA to me

The blue 6344 SS Stockmans at the local Tractor Supply were $70 plus tax. I do not know if your $40-$50 ebay estimate includes tax and shipping but it still is less. In my observation 3 1/4" 6344 Stockmans are less common than similar shaped 3 1/2" 6332 Stockmans. They are certainly less common than 3 1/2" round ended 6318 Stockmns. With patience and the attitude that you do not care if you win the present auction or some future auction you'll eventually fish a low cost common stockman model out of the bay.

I like stockmans. For what ever my opinion is worth, probably not much, In stockmans larger size makes the secondary blades more effective. I use their sheep's foot the most and while I do not really like the look of spey blades I wind up useing them more than the master blade.

Case first started offering some patterns in blister packs - really clam packs - in 1986. They have offered over the years a variey of patterns packaged that way. They used to show the clam packed knives spearately in catalogs and price lists. Some of them may be packaged that way only on special order for specific retailers.
