I was out-and-about yesterday after IHOP breakfast and found this. Measures 5 5/8" closed. The last two pics are with the camera flash on.
Thanks for looking,
Chris J.

Nice find. I have one like it, but newer.
https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... hp?t=70259 Probably the largest folding knife I have.

Yours is the only one I’ve seen with a dentate pull and a tang stamp. Most are etched.

Thanks Ken. I appreciate the info. Yes, this is the largest largest folder I have also--nothing shy about it, that's for sure.

KA-BAR did not put model numbers on blades until owned by Cole National who started the practice around 1968-1969. The model 1179 ended in 1980 according to old KA-BAR literature. Your knife with the dentate pull would be an early one for the series.

Thanks, Gunsil, for the information regarding the history of the 1179 pattern and a time frame for the manufacture of this one. I appreciate your sharing.

Hey Herb:
Sweet! A beauty of a twin. I was unfamiliar with this older version of the pattern until two days ago, and now I've seen two.
