Found this Wostenholm dagger along with sheath and what appear to be letter opener in my great grandfathers things. Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure out the date it was manufactured?

Thanks

Very nice and old Wostenholm knife!

It dates to before 1891 definitely.

Welcome aboard ::handshake::

Cool looking dagger, but I think that sheath was made for another knife.

Levine says Wostenholm Celebrated Cutlery mark was 1870s-1880s. I can't read mark on photo but if that's the mark it is likely post civil war.

I believe the sheath could be original to the knife although it appears the NSL tip has been altered at some time in the past 135 years. These sheaths were not near as sturdy as the knives and the sheath pictured is definitely of the same time period as the knife.

I see at the bottom portion of the picture you provided your book is titled "Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values"
Any chance the guide gives an approximate value for this knife?

Thanks for your help.

Levine's guide does not give a value for your knife but your knife is quite valuable none the less. Petekuhn who posted above might be best equipped to give you a ballpark figure.
