Check out the box of knives on the floor. Dated 1922. I found this researching for a book

I love that Queen factory picture. In fact, I tried printing it off (in black and white) and it didn't come out any where near as good as the one you posted.

1922 was the year Schatt and Morgan fired five of their top employees for stealing parts and supplies and crafting skeleton knives and hafting them elsewhere and selling them in competition with their employers. They had been involved in that nefarious activity since 1918, sucking money out of S&M.

Apparently, some workers left with them, leaving S&M with a reduced work force in an era of manpower shortages due to WWI.

Queen City was founded in 1922 and bought out the failing Schatt & Morgan Cutlery in 1933.

If that photo is of Queen City, in a factory other than the Schatt and Morgan facilities, dating 1922, it is rare, indeed.

If so, it is, however, a photograph of a bunch of crooks and thieves, who destroyed the business of their former employers.

Love their knives, but the five men that founded it were a sorry bunch.

The book thst I am working on will provide some little known information on this historic firm. The evolution from New York City to Winchester Ohio Watch for it this fall

Very informative photo, PA. It really is a glimpse back in time. I guess they scavenged crates from anywhere they could find them. I find it interesting (and off topic) that after a century, two of the three readable names: Ivory Soap and Chase and Sanborn are still familiar names. More so than Queen.

Do you have any idea of the purpose of the round things on the back wall?

I see what looks like wooden knife handles in the crate.

I would be honored to buy a signed copy from you David when it is ready. My grandfather worked for Queen in the 70's and 80's, and I love learning more about the missing pieces of history surrounding it.

I think the round things hung on the back wall are possibly grindstones or buffing wheels.
