Can you get green out of stag? Have a knife that was left in a leather sheath for years. If so how?

I don’t know of any way to remove it without damaging the stag. It may depend on the degree of damage, so pictures of the knife might help determine the answer. If it’s lightly on the surface it might be removed by wiping vigorously with a soft cloth.
It’s called verdigris, created by a chemical reaction when copper (an element contained in brass and nickel silver) reacts with acids used to preserve (tan) leather. So it originates from the bolsters and liners, or the pommel and guard in a fixed blade, and permeates into the pores of stag, bone, or other porous handle material. Maybe someone else knows how.
