We has this little critter outside eating breakast. Th e cats were wise to leave it alone.
You can see the back of our indoor cat's head in some of the pictures.
He had his fill, I tapped on the window he ran off and I dispatched him with a blast from a trusty 12 guage.
NO FREE MEALS, one of those guys let loose a couple nights ago. It was so close the only thing you could taste or smell was skunk - cleared my sinuses though.

Hukk,
At least you had more sense than my Great Uncle, who gave the same treatment to one under the floor of their summer kitchen !
My Aunt had a lot to say to him that day, but it was all in German, so I can't repeat any of it !

Yeah, it's definitely BEST to give them a running head start. About 40 yds from the house and NO SMELL!

Even the outdoor cats were smat enough to just watch.

my sheltie believed skunks were kitties with a racing stripe...FINALLY figured out they did not climb trees or run real fast...
white vinigar in a spray bottle works to about 98% subdue...and yes..it does clear one's sinus.

Yeah, they are nasty smelling creatures when they let go.
I remember when I was up clearing some land near Clearlake back in the early 90's. I had just finished loading the truck and trailer with 2 cords of split wood when I went to look for booger (my dog). He was about a year old and dumb (never did wise up but had a great nose so we tolerated each other). I finally spotted him, about 175 yds away. I picked up my rifle and watched this full grown skunk stamping his front feet and turning as if to spray. He just feinted, never did and I don't know why he didn't. They got nose to nose when I pulled the trigger, fortunately killing the skunk without him spraying.
Now I had the back of the truck and the trailer filled with wood - If that dog had got himself sprayed I was going to tie him to a tree and leave him for a week. The neighbors had been family friends for more years than anyone can remember.
I would NOT put him in the front seat - WITH ME! well, we didn't have to go there.

Well we have skunks or civet cats in all kind of flavors down South, here's one that decided to do a little rooting around my office. He thought that it would be neat to crawl up into the central air unit and go up the mobile home duct into my office. He then must have gotten nervous because he could not get out so decided to spray until he could not spray anymore..I called the A/C repairman and boy was he surprised when he popped the lid off the unit and this stinker crawled out. It only took about 3 months for the scent to go away and a million dollars in glades plug in doohickey's..We also had to change all the A/C duct as well...

A few years ago, I spent my summers working with the boy scouts with their local summer camp programs. Great way to spend summer break during high school, for sure. I ran a department of 4 or so boys, and Being a fan of the old MASH series I couldn't let a summer in tents go by without pranks. My 4 staffers were my little evil army.
Anyways, Skunks being rather plentiful here, alot of our pranks used them in some way shape or form. One night, my crew and I popped open the locks on our rival departments cabin (where they taught and worked during the day) and smeared some Peanut butter around. We left the doors open, and went back to bed for a few hours, before one us went back and just "closed the doors". You can imagine what they came to work to the next morning
The best, however, was spending time baiting the campmaster's shower (outdoor) with various food bits over the course of a week, while he was away for a few days. Needless to say, he was rather....surprised, the night he came back when he hopped out of the shower and had a small audience waiting for their nightly snack
Good times
