::hmm:: .... I thought that at first thar maybe the "9" could have been worn off with age... ::paranoid:: .... but that would be ::skeptic:: a crazy speculation!!! ::uc::

The patent was for Western's bifurcated tang. I think knife is 1950s.

Thank you for your reply that helps there's one reply on the internet where a guy thought he seen a dog head on the blade but it's not it's a Lions head sticking up from the Safari grass and a bird leaning over in the grass

Whatever is etched on the blade face was put there by someone else not the factory.

Looks like a rust etch to me and I agree with MB, it certainly didn't leave the factory with whatever it is. Western was not known for etching blades with anything but the buffalo skull or the tic tac toe etches and those were not in that area of the blade.

Y'all may be absolutely correct because I don't know I know it's some grass sketched on it with a lion's head sticking up and some type of bird leaning over pecking the grass who put it on there I have no idea but then it's day it looked pretty cool

What is the blade length and what is the overall length?

Also, if you look down on the handle, is it solid composition pearl, or does it have a combination pearl and black handle (layered, with the black against the tang)?
