Something Sharp, but....different!

I figured if anyone would appreciate this, you folks would

My family has discovered my weakness. Time was, I could make some decent cash doing computer work for just about everyone. Now, it goes something like this

Me: All finished up!
Various friends and family: Great, hey, I was looking through insert old out of the way place here and I found this old insert sharp object here, and I thought I would save it for you the next time you fixed up my PC...
Me: ... can't.....resist....urge.......GAH!

So what I got this time was an old Bengall Straight Razor with Celluloid handles. My Uncle had it in a box with some of my grandfathers stuff and for at least 20 or so years it sat alone and unloved ::mdm::

The handles, typical of the material, started to go, one was cracked off at the wedge pin entirely

As such, the blade was pretty rusted (I got to excited, no pictures of the before, sorry!). This started off as a freeform doodle at work. I wanted something sweepy, but malicious looking. After all, they called these things "cutthroat razors". The final product, with it's shiny black G10 handles and NS pins, looks downright evil 8). I think I'd be afraid to shave with it, it might come alive and then who knows what!

Let me know what you think! Oh, and the orange background? a weird gift from my parents recent vacation (http://www.dirtshirt.com/), The color showed off the handles better than my old green toolbox lid :D

STUNNING! I keep looking from the blade to the handle, common sense says you cannot mix old and new that way, but you have created a masterpiece! That should be in an art gallery, I kid you not. ::ds::

Thanks!   A solid weekends worth of work. I do kinda feel bad though. there was so much pitting and deep rust on the stem I had to clear away alot of metal, so much in fact that I lost a good part of the the BENGALL stamp. After that, I said the heck with it and reshaped the whole stem, and since I was doing that, I filed in the "jimps" (technical term, so fun!) on the lower side as well. I've yet to try my hand at honing it, but it's already sharper than just about anything I own.

Excellent lines! I really like how you shaped the handle - it's fitting that a "straight razor" gets a handle with "french curves"...

Good job!

real nice! handles looks like deteriorating horn rather than celluloid. I have done quite a bit of work on razors, horn begins to delaminate over the years and insects tend to dig in too. Very interesting handle chape you came up with too! Love that creativity.

That's entirely possible. It is deteriorating differently than what I normally attribute to cell, but I chalked that up to inexperience, it had an odd, chemical odor to it, but it could be whatever my uncle tried to clean it up with before he handed it over to me. regardless, I could see doing a few more of these, it was a fun project
