All About Pocket Knives

Hey guys, Getting ready to list this and makin sure i get the description right! Trying to nail down exact name of the color on the scales. is it just orange bone, sunburst, TEQUILA SUNRISE?. I thought that one just sounds good! so how should i list it? Came with wrong box. Thanks, RED

I can't see the stamp too well, but I'm pretty sure that is Indian Paintbrush from 2002, which is a very desirable color. Not to be confused with the more recent run of Indian Paintbrush that just came out this year.

my bad. this is an 02 copperlock but tang number doesnt denote color or do they on the indian paintbrush knives? I havnt seen too many of these with the XX on bolster. The problem with collecting, when you find something that so funky you know you wont get attached till you shine it up! its hard to find an ugly case! any input on this will be helpful, Thanks

Case doesn’t use a pattern tang stamp to denote the colors. They did do a few that way years ago but I don’t think there’s enough numbers and letters to mark all the colors they’ve used. They do put the color name they’ve derived on the box, but without the box that the knife came in, knowing the color that Case called it takes someone well-versed in collecting modern Case knives. Some of them are so close in appearance (and given that all pieces of bone “take” the dye differently) without the box you can get some differences of opinion.

So unless you have the box the knife came in, it’s difficult. The web site knifedb.com does a pretty good job of documentation but it requires a paid membership to get beyond the pay wall. The Case Collector’s Club forum members can usually can recognize them, but again you have to be a paying club member to access the forum.

well, seems like things are going my way tonight. I have found that when i bought this collection that the boxes were all mixed up. so it looks like that this is what i have, Thanks again, Guys RED

Glad to see you found the box. In my earlier response about the stamp, I meant that I couldn't tell for sure in the pictures if it was a 2002 stamp that would have been when the Indian Paintbrush Copperlocks were made. Looks like it is. Good luck with it.
