All About Pocket Knives

Is it possible to date this Old Timer by the tang stamp, there is no model number stamped on tangs, the blades are highly polished, Is it a early production knife? Any info would be appreciated.

Need the exact closed length of the knife. Most likely either 2 7/8 inches or 3 5/16 inches. If the former it would be a 108OT. The OT stands for Old Timer. If the latter it would be a 34OT. Schrade Walden tang stamp would be 1962 to 1973.

Closed length is a little over 2 3/4'', I know it is a 1080T , I was thinking it could be dated because of lack of model number and mirror finish of blades. Thanks Threresa

Can't help on that one but I did give the date range. It is a 108OT, not a 1080T.

Schrade Walden and later Schrade did not use unique identifying marks on their knives that can be used to distinguish which year the knife was made. The 108OT pattern was made from 1963 to 2004. The only thing that sets this knife apart is the Schrade Walden tang stamp which was discontinued in mid-1973 when the company dropped “Walden” from their company name and their tang stamps. By this information we know this knife was made prior to the name change in 1973, thus giving a date range for the manufacture of this knife between1963 to 1973. The 108OT was a very popular and common pattern that was manufactured for over 40 years. There were literally millions of them made. But they were popular for a reason, they were quality knives and not very expensive.

Some trivia. This 108OT was preceded by essentially the same knife in the Schrade Walden years, the 808 openstock. And THAT knife was preceded by the grand daddy, the 8084, in the pre 1946 years. Here is an example of that much older version.
