All About Pocket Knives

Hello all and thanks for looking.

Finished this one up this week. I really like silver and black together. I decided not to go with a shield here as I thought simple looked so much more classy on this one...what are your thoughts?

Spear Point slip joint in O1 with Ebony covers.
Nickel silver bolsters, pins and coin edged liners

The pull on this is what I consider medium, it has nice walk and talk and can be pinched open (video here: https://youtu.be/djl5eMTPb4Y?si=EKbIOFXn5ueA5PHE), half stop, spring lays flat in all 3 positions.
Tip is centered. Blade hand sanded to 600 grit finish.



OAL: 6"
Closed 3.45"
Cutting Edge: 2.25"

Very classy indeed Normally, I like a nice shield, but I agree the simple, no-shield look is cleaner and lends this knife a sense of understated elegance. The coined liners provide the perfect amount of embellishment

Nice large, lined bolster at the pivot.
Love that spear, long pull, equal end, and the Ebony.
Half stop! I have no doubt the mechanics are "Fine".

Thank you. I have to remind myself to not always do the same thing. I had a shield (diamond) for it and it looked really good mocked up but when I took it off, it just looked like it was supposed to be bare.

Thank you Sir, this was the first time using Ebony and I really liked it. It worked a lot like Blackwood but didn't smell as good lol. Besides the barlow, this is my favorite pattern. I usually like it with an easy open and shield but I wanted to change things up a little.

Going over your pictures again I'm wondering if the knife is an equal end.
The lens can distort. Maybe a sleeveboard?

Not quite equal but it's close. The butt end does swell some. Educate me on this...I always thought a sleeveboard had the wider end at the pivot and a swell end jack had the butt end a little wider...but I am not close to an expert on patterns. I kind of make what I like and it usually comes out looking like something LOL

I think your understanding its correct, Tim.

I'm honestly never quite sure and Im probably the least qualified to say. I have to look up a lot of pattern names when I hear them. Other than a Barlow I usually call everything a slip joint just to be on the safe side. lol.

This knife looks like one a feller would put in his pocket and be able to handle any thing that came his way!
This knife also looks like one a feller would also put on the shelf and admire and fondle every now and then!
Isn't it amazing how a basic tool, that is the pocketknife, has turned into such a desirable collector's piece?

Careful there, Tim Believe it or not, there are some folks on here who even take issue with the term "slip joint"

Thank you! When I finished it my wife said it looks like a knife that goes to church or on a fancy date lol.

Great job Tim! I think the Ebony looks Fantastic and always love a Long Pull Spear, and those coined liners and the threaded bolster really add a touch of class.
