All About Pocket Knives

My understanding is that Moore Maker knives were previously made by Queen. If that’s correct, does anyone know who manufactures them now?

I've observed several Moore Maker offerings that match up with knives made by Bear & Son. The Moore Maker versions usually have a unique feature such as special covers.

Moore Maker undoubtedly contracts with other makers as well.

Over the years Moore Maker has contracted with several different knife makers. Today it is primarily Bear & Son, however I have one made by Utica and one by Boker. Others I believe that have made knives for them is Camillus, Queen and CASE did also. Anytime you buy one you can call them or email them and they will tell you who made any specific knife.

When I visited Moore Maker (around 2000) they told me they had knives made through their middleman Blue Grass Cutlery, by several companies. Moore owned proprietary tooling for some patterns (meaning those were typically exclusive to Moore Maker). They do incoming inspection to ensure quality. You can sometimes tell who made the knife for them by looking at the catalog number - if it contains a letter “U” it was made by Utica, a “C” is Case, etc, or by comparing the knife to one from the maker. The handle cover material or finish, or the type of steel, may be different (exclusive to Moore Maker) but the tooling will otherwise be the same.

Among the past manufacturers have been Camillus, Queen, Utica, Case, Böker, Canal Street, Bear & Son, some custom makers, and others. From the Moore Maker company beginnings in mid-1980s, until some time into the 2000s many but by no means all Moore Maker knives were made by Queen. They ceased using Queen around the time when Queen’s quality began slipping (whether intentionally or coincidentally related to that I do not know).

Lastly if in doubt just call the number on the Moore Maker box. Chances are good the phone will be answered by a Moore family member. In my experience they’re friendly and helpful folks. They keep very good records so can probably tell you from the pattern number who made the knife. When I was there they had at least one sample of every knife they have ever sold.

Correct. In fact there are some of the “football” pattern knives made by Canal Street still available on the Moore Maker web site.
