All About Pocket Knives

I took a trip with Zeus a little while ago the Yuma Proving Ground Open Air Museum and some interesting AFVs. I have been to many such museums all over the country and the world, and I was really impressed at the YPG's displays. I still have many more museums to on the list to see. Maybe you have already been to some of them and can give your opinion and recommendations. If anyone is a tank/AFV enthusiast, please feel free to post your pictures of what you have seen, or your favorite AFVs.

Thank you for the pictures and sharing GSPTOPDOG. We have a place over in Wheaton Illinois. Cantigny park. The McCormick family and not the McCormick spice company I work for. I will try and put the link in. Been over there a few times with my son. David is all about WWII.

Thanks for your input ... That is very interesting to me; 1st Division Army Filed Museum*. I would love to see it!


*The 1st Infantry Division Museum is a significant institution dedicated to the history and legacy of America's oldest continuously serving division, known as the "Big Red One." Located in Wheaton, Illinois, the museum offers a comprehensive exploration of the division's history from World War I to the present day. It features thematic galleries, a 60-minute guided tour, and an outdoor collection of military vehicles and equipment. The museum's mission is to preserve, interpret, and present the history of the 1st Infantry Division in the broader context of American military history.

The Marines fire blank Howitzer rounds during the 1812 Overture for Alexandria's Independence Day celebration on the Waterfront. I think they have four and they're impressive even with blank rounds. Otherwise they might take out Nats Park or Blue Plains sewage treatment plant.

Top I'm enjoying the photos and I sure don't want to get into a shooting war with with your museum personal but the photo of 120761 ain't no 175mm iff'n I ain't badly fooled it a 155mm self propelled. Your last photo is a 175mm it's on the M110 chassis same as the 8 inch with which I'm certainly well acquainted with, as I can't hear s--t because of them. A,B,and C batteries had 155mm towed when I was with D/8 of the 6th artillery.

The way you posted here are some pictures from summer of 66. Hopefully I am not wrong in assuming you are in some of those pictures. Please identify yourself.

Big ugly dude 2nd from the right. Tried to clean up the photo as it was damaged in a fire in '68 all other photos are ones given to me by the dude 2nd from the left and the guy holding the 10,000 projo. They are 2 guys I've had reunions with over the years sadly Ed 2nd the second from the left passed 2years ago.Catfish to my left passed several years ago and big Willie I was never able to locate.

It’s nice to see a face to the name of the cyber friends I have met here on the forum.
Only thing better is face to face. I am up to three people face to face all at the Badger knife show. Ripster and THWKG, last year and I met Waukonda / Ike this past weekend. So if any train enthusiasts are heading to IRM or Cantigny, I am close to either and would do my best to meet more people face to face. Until then the cyber friendships will have to do.

Back in the early-mid 1990s, I went with two buddies to the Ordnance Museum at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Sadly, at that point, little-to-no upkeep was being performed on them and many were rusting, wasting away. I believe the collection has since been moved. I did find this on Youtube that someone made while the museum was operational. It appears that by the time this video was made, some upkeep/paint was being performed once again.

If anyone likes military type stuff there's a dandy artillery museum at fort Sill in Lawton OK.
I was coming home from a tour of Yellowstone and the grand Tetons about 15 years ago and had my grandson with us, he was heavy into all things military and he found out about a museum somewhere in Nebraska and he wanted to stop and see it. It was just off of I 80 so we stop, I didn't figure it be much to it, but a group of old vets VFW and American Legion members had join forces and had all kinds of tanks, trucks and artillery pieces including a 8 inch self propelled gun just like pa had been on in Nam. That young'un got to climb up on that thing and it made his day and mine too.
