All About Pocket Knives

Need help in a fair and good price to ask on these. I've done my personal research, but I wanted to reach out to those who collect and actually do the buying. It was my grandfather's collection and Im just asking for what fair asking prices would be?

A good way to find out what collectors are paying for a knife is to do an enhanced search of eBay, limited to sold listings only, of that item. Since you have already researched each item, you have what you need to search ebay for it. Limiting the search to sold listings gives you actual selling prices, and eliminates current listings which may be the seller’s wishful price. Condition is paramount so compare the condition of your item with that of the sold item, and adjust accordingly.

I believe it's because folks want an immediate evaluation and quoted price without any personal investment of research.

I understand your concern about being “ripped off”. If you don’t mind a little sympathetic friendly advice, you can do the research (your OP indicates you’ve already done some) including eBay sold listings to determine an asking price. Or you can list them for sale on ebay in an auction format with a low starting bid, and let it run for 7 to 10 days. If you have an accurate description and good clear in-focus pictures the bidders will determine the price for you, and you are highly unlikely to be ripped off.

Unfortunately too often sellers in general have a distrust of buyers and an overinflated expectation of what grandpa’s knife is worth. So they list it with that as a “Buy It Now” price, and it doesn’t sell. JMO

Either of those methods require a good deal of work on the seller’s part. The last option is to sell the whole lot to a dealer and let them do the work, which is why they will buy from you at a discounted price. The advantages of that are you get money quick and don't have to do the research, take pictures, list the items, pack and ship each item, etc. There are honest dealers who are AAPK members and/or have stores here, on eBay or other places. If you decide to go that route just contact them, or post your intentions and they will contact you. Good luck luck with whatever you decide to do.

You can sell here but as I said in my prior post, to sell here you will have to either become a premium member, or open a store. Details of both options can be found by simply click on “Sell on AAPK” and “Support AAPK through a Premium Membership”. Up there ^^^. Go to the AAPK home page - look around!

Or you can sell on eBay or any other online site that interests you. eBay has a HUGE audience of potential buyers. Here on AAPK you have a smaller audience, but those are all knife people - Otherwise they aren’t here, by definition.

Bully! If you haven't done so already, make sure you set aside one that really catches your eye. Carry it, use it, and remember your grandfather every time you pull it out of your pocket.
