All About Pocket Knives

I was working on a Damascus bowie today did the file work . And now working on the handle do I need a bone handle for this one or is the wood bototie ? OK ? Coffin handle looks good but this knife I think it needs bone it is a fighter long and lean ,the file work worked out real good so does it need a bone handle are not ? I still need to clean the blade and put the cims on it to make all the lines come out you can only see half of the lines now I'll do that tomorrow then glue it up I also think the guard might need some color I was thinking about bluing it have any of ya did this with any good luck

hey clint, nice work. got stag? bone would be nice, maybe natural? brownell's oxpho-blue cold blue has given me great results.

I think stagg will work well I eched the blade last night heres what I got

If you don't want to go with Stag (with a knurled cap), you could always add some nickelsilver pins installed "proud" by a 1/16" or so - would give the handle some "relief".

I just bought a DVD from http://www.ccinstructionalvideos.com by Don Robinson on how to make a titanium linerlock barlow and it's one of the best instructional DVD's I've ever watched. Just chock full of tips. Don does a wonderful job.

Don has blueprints for sale on another site, I bought one to make a Texas Toothpick. From what I learned I designed a 3-7/8 Barlow that I have yet to build. http://home.earthlink.net/~donwrobinson ... index.html is Don's site for Blueprints and other items. I don't know if he has it on his sites yet.

I also bought some kit knives from http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/index.php?cPath=1 Anyhow that's how I went from fixed blades to folder and I need a lot more work in that area since I've been tied up with fixed blade hunters and drop points with sheaths (may stop and buy sheaths - my weak point) mainly.

I got started making an 8 inch drop point for my brother in CA and a 9-3/4 hunter for my brother in OR. Well that one I sent out for heat treat, O-1 tool steel HT with a cryo in liquid Nitrogen that tested out at 59 RC. Make a long story short he split the chest cavity of a bull elk with one swing. My little bro is not so little. Anyhow, I been getting orders like crazy from those guys. So, it has been just a word of mouth thing for the last couple years I guess and another 10 to 12 months backlogged. I really want to set aside time for folders. Can't complain I guess.

EDIT: Oh yeah, it's about $50.00 and worth it. You can rent it from smart flicks also.

That is a stunning look. Can't get over how the blue "etch" changed thr entire look of the blade. I was asked last week if I had etched one of my blades and was I ever stoopid. I should have asked what was meant by "etching". I have to admit the technique is a mystery to me. What chemical is used and how? I thought I knew what etching meant but where Damascus steel is concerned I haven't a clue. Any how that is a great looking "Boooy".

Let me amend my last msg. When I said "one of my blades" I didn't mean I had made it, I bought it and only assembled the handle..

Clint - no problem, glad to help out. My commission is currently not very much - in fact, I'm pretty sure that newly decorated bowie would just about cover it!
