All About Pocket Knives

I have a Case Seahorse Whittler that I would like to re-blade.
I have no clue of where to buy blades or even how to do this.
Would it simply be cheaper to buy a new one as opposed to re-blading? Would any of you folks offer this type of service?Any thoughts, comments most appreciated.

Send it back to Case. they will do it for you. I send a two blade back and it only cost me around $12

I would suggest case too if they will take it on, they wouldn't take my 6275SP back for new blades

If all else fails I have a couple horsie blades out in the parts bin.

Thanks guys, I will contact Case and see what they say. Actually one of the reasons I would like them re-bladed is to get rid of the surgical steel blades. I think they might have chrome vanadium blades for the seahorse whittler, but I'm not sure. I will call and see what I can come up with.

Don, thanks. I don't think they make cv blades for the seahorse, I heard it was cost prohibitive because of the thickness of the master blades.

Thanks MM, I checked around and did not see any either. I sent them an email anyway regarding blade replacement. Curious if they are willing to do it.

Actually, I would prefer some nice quality carbon steel blades on there. I have some Camillus whittler pattern knives that sharpen and carve with ease. The Case SS steel just doesn't "feel" right, and seems to burr up more than other knives I have? Could be me!
It's a shame, as I really like the seahorse pattern. I think I may look into a Schatt & Morgan carpenter whittler, I hear they are supposed to have quality steel?!

Yep, I have the same problems don, just can't get it sharp to my likings. I'd suggest an older case 6380 in CV they are nice and big, or maybe a gassed off case classic whittler with some new handles to serve you?

Hey MM, I just heard back from Case. All repairs are done with 2008 material and they charge $4.00 per blade plus $15.00 labor and $7.50 shipping. So $34.50 to have it re-bladed with the same steel.

Is there any way to take blades from other knives and place them in the seahorse?

Yeah, I agree MM, can't keep it sharp to my liking...do you happen to have a rehandled classic case whittler? I am a newby, but were those the ones made by Queen? (If so, should have good snap and good steel?) I will try to look up some 6380 CV also ... Thank you ever so much for the information!

Don, for that money one could almost buy a new seahorse? I have some seahorse blades out in the shop to replace ones in your knife. I don't have a rehandled whittler unfortunately but they made some very nice wharnecliffe whittlers that would make a great carving knife I bet. A big canal street whittler might not be a bad choice either. Too bad GEC doesn't make a big equal end splitback off thier #53 frame
