All About Pocket Knives

I have not shown off any fine ole cutlery in awhile, so I picked out one of my favorite pieces. Sorry I cannot make it click to enlarge, but I am on dial-up and it would take awhile to load.

This is called a Lamb Splitter or Buffalo Knife, yeah.......they been around that long. A band saw has taken their place now. If you are a collector or knower of old Bowie's, sometimes you can see one of these in the design. I do not think it was done to decieve, just somebody setting around making a User back in the day.

The newer models (40-60's or so) usually have a hole for hanging like a cleaver and basically that is what this is. If you look closely at the image with the dime, to the left you can see the "rolled edge" like you find on cleavers.
Only about a 1/4" is sharpen, the rest is flat stock. It weighs approximately two pounds and is 18 or so inches in lenght
Most I have seen are made by Russell, but this one is stamped:
VOGT
PORTLAND ORE
I have searched old catalogs and bendoveri'lldriveBay for years and never seen anything else made with this name. Any info would be appreciated.

BTW: These are getting to be rare and expensive, if you can find one for 50 bucks or so, get it for me and I will shoot you a PayPal payment.

nice carver there 9-ball. did some research and found lots of vogt from the portland area. seems as though that is a popular name there.

no, sorry, not cutlery. just the name is associated with many business'. seems to be a lot of german influence in that area.

I have tried dogpile a couple of times and never found nothing. Blacksmith's, butches supply, etc. Got access to a 1920's meat house supply catalog, they got them in there, but no Vogt.
Got another German oddball item from the Right coast, took me awhile to find info on and just a little at that. I will try and get it on next. Same time.......same channel.
