Re: Show Us Your Camillus Knives!
Picked up another Camillus 165 Stainless, early '80s Cross Sword shield and Razor Edge Stainless blade etch. Excellent snap on all blades. The blade etch is still visible, but starting to get faint.

Re: Show Us Your Camillus Knives!
Nice pick there Smitty . The etch on those was never very dark to begin with . Didn’t most of those come in the Red/white and blue box with a sharpening rod in with it ? And there was 2 model numbers available in that release.Papa Bones wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 2:31 am Picked up another Camillus 165 Stainless, early '80s Cross Sword shield and Razor Edge Stainless blade etch. Re: Show Us Your Camillus Knives!
I received this one a few days ago. I believe it is a Camillus that was made for Sears. It only has MADE IN U.S.A. on the master Spear point blade. It is a 3-5/8" closed Cattle Knife, with Spear point master blade, Sheepsfoot secondary, and a pen for the final blade. It has brass liners, bone handles and no shield. I am thinking it was made before 1940, because in 1940 Sears offered two Cattle Knives, one was 3-1/4 and the other was 3-3/8 but had Clip master blades. I have no references from Sears catalogs between 1919 to 1939.
As received, this one needed a little work. It was dirty, with some rust, bone was dry, blades were stiff, the Master Spear point was missing a chunk of metal, and there is a chip missing from the bone handle at the center pin on the mark side. Gave it a warm mineral oil spa treatment, steel wool the blades, reshaped the spear point blade and put a new edge on it. The warm mineral oil really helped the bone, but nothing you can really do about the chip, and i don't want to re-handle it. Green scotch brite and 4 0000 steel wool to clean out the blade wells, and steel wool on the bolsters and polished with some Flitz. Now all blades have great snap, although the Master Spear blade does have some slight wobble side to side. But, my goal was not to make it a new knife, but to give it a new life as a serviceable EDC. All blades have had a good sharpening, I think it turned out well.

The knife sure looks similar to the Army Air Corp knife that measures 3 and 5/8 inches closed. The brass liners are throwing me though ? Is it military as the Made in USA was used by the government thru some periods as the only tang stamp . The pics are reference only . The knife on top is a Camillus 4 line ,again for reference .
Very nice piece from the 40 s Smitty

Re: Show Us Your Camillus Knives!
Thanks JP. Yep, saw that one in my book. That is a fine knife of yours. In the 1919 Sears catalog, they show the same knife as mine, with brass liners and the same blade configuration with bone handles, but it has a shield. I would love to see any of the Sears Catalogs from 1920 to 1939, just to see if they had this one listed without a shield.Ripster wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 10:14 pm

Smitty,
What you did with that old cattle knife is one of the most satisfying parts of messing with HOKs. I have no idea how many old knives I’ve cleaned, oiled up and was very pleased to hear that very distinctive snap when the blades are closed!
Good job, thanks for sharing your prize.

Thank you Phil. So true, it is almost like a kind of Natural medicine, and once you hear the snap of the blades it puts you in a good place.treefarmer wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 10:59 pm Smitty,
