the one that gave me fits..............................
I just finished this one today. This blade I had four different ideas for within thirty minutes (while forging it) so I finally just set the thing aside for the rest of the day. I'm blaming it on to much coffee!
It ended up surprising me, I'm really liking it! She has a couple of little problems, but then, don't we all!

Thanks Phil, Rick!
These are the blades I made over in Wyoming at Ed's place. I ran off and forgot my darn stamp! Can you believe that! Now I'm going to have to get that etching machine that Dale and Hukk suggested.

5160 - excellent steel. I see you're starting out making really nice knives using excellent steels. 5160, O-1, and 52100 are the ones I seem to remember you posting. Dang - that's great you are doing excellent work! I did not think 5160 or 52100 were steels for beginners - you seem to have a knack for it!

Thanks Hukk!
May as well start with the tough stuff.............from there it's all down hill. I'll probably stick with those three steels, maybe eliminate the 01. I have had some very good results with it though!

Re: the one that gave me fits..............................
While 52100 may be my personal favorite - I have made and seen O-1 knives that are just excellent performers!
I think I will keep it myself. Of course I do stock removal - and it is hard to find flat 52100 and 5160 - I have found it from reputable sources though. I have found some flat stock O-7+ steel that supposedly gets hardest of all the O series - need to try that!
Great work on your knife - we have come to expect that from you now!
