Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
I agree that is a nice photo of the Cormorant, Joe.
Boji, I think that Ike is right that the yellow bird is not a Goldfinch. I think is is probably a Yellow Warbler. Some of them (Yellow warblers) are not very bright.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Ike, not a Yellow Rumped Warbler, the rump was definitely white. Not knowing if it was a male or female I guess I won’t know for certain. But I do agree after looking at the other pictures I took and consulting the Audubon Field Guide, it was not a Goldfinch.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
My first impression immediately coming to mind was a yellow warbler. But lacking much experience with Warblers I yield to Ike's analysis which is well thought out.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
I said Yellow Warbler, but when I checked my bird book, the Yellow does not have an eye line. How about Pine Warbler? Here is one from my garden.
And a Yellow Warbler for comparison.
What the heck, here is a Yellow-rumped Warber too.
These photos are all from my garden, from the past. No warblers here at this time. Within a few weeks some migrants should be showing up.Mel

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
The mystery continues, the Pine Warbler looks the most like my little friend. He/she stopped again for a jelly snack.
But, Audubon lists most warblers to be 5 1/2 inches. And lists the common House Sparrow to be 5 to 6 1/2 inches. My birdie is much smaller than the Sparrows.
In my picture the jelly dish is 3 1/2 inches. So birdie appears to be about 4 to 4 1/2 inches.
Will warblers feed at a hummingbird feeder?

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
I saw 15-20 Kingbirds all bunched up today, I suppose they will soon be flying south.
Here is a common, Common Egret. I usually ignore them, but this one was having some luck fishing, so I watched for a few minutes.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
After further research I have decided my feathered friend is a Pine Warbler. His Mrs. is here also. The markings are exact for both. But their presence here and the feeding habits are against odds. Western Iowa not their normal range. They are supposed to be seed eaters, they have never touched my seed feeder. But love the jelly and hummer nectarBoji wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 1:45 am The mystery continues, the Pine Warbler looks the most like my little friend. He/she stopped again for a jelly snack.

Great picture Scott. I don't care for turkey. Ate it too much in the 80s during the lean years. Love to watch wild ones. I have been told it is totally different. Hope to try it someday.
