Minor dumpster fire. We oldtimers here are used to them.
We had it contained and almost out when the FD showed up.
They decide to pull a hydrant, promptly setting off the fire alarm in our other building!
Fortunately it was unoccupied tonight.
8 inch supply, tower deluge, probably 2000 gallons wasted water ....

Maybe they just needed the practice?

I was a professional firefighter for 34 years, even though I never used this tactic on a dumpster fire, it makes sense.
You never know what is in a dumpster. I've had objects explode and some with hazardous materials.
This tactic keeps the firefighters out of harms way.
What difference does it really make, 1000 gallons from a handline or 2000 from an aerial device?

Figured you would chime in ...
Was a volunteer FF/EMT so I'm not completely unfamiliar with the tactics used.
But what transpired was a comedy of errors. Think Keystone Kops . . .
We have a long history of these fires, sadly. They're caused by a molecular sieve used in a proprietary
extruded compound we make here on site. Those dumpsters are there specifically for leftovers and waste,
kept isolated because the stuff will combust.
We actually have a deluge system with room for 4 dumpsters, but because of a building expansion it's out of order.

Havent been on in awhile as I have been nursing some awful bruised gums. Hard to talk, sleep, eat, drink. I think I have finally learned my lesson on crunching big chunks of ice! My teeth and mouth is not a vice! Doing much better now. Gonna hit the sack and turn on some Andy Griffith Show.
Hope y'all have a restful nights sleep!
It's been a while since we last spoke. It was really good chatting with Scott (although I believe I did most of the chatting). Scott, I see you've already cracked the seal on that bottle of Four Roses (one of my favorites)

Just came back in from sitting on the front porch while listening to Jerry Clower talk about the Ledbetters, among other things. Gums have all but healed and I'm heading for a restful night! But first...a quick visit to Mayberry and see what's happening at the courthouse.
Hit the rack at 2200, now here it is 0100 & I'm back up & wide awake. The crazy thing is it's not because of a head call. Just woke up and was laying there thinking I need to get a birthday card for my Grandson and get it mailed (his BD is Thursday). Geez Louise.

BUSY, busy week ahead!
Tomorrow will be getting caught up on house chores for the week ahead!
Gonna bust out some Andy Griffith Show, rest in bed and relax before sleep.
Also counting down to getting the SMKW Christmas catalog here in about a month! I wear that thing out, looking through it again and again and again......
