Acrylic and epoxy resin handles

Hi all,
I've added epoxy covers to these knives, which is a modification I don't see here often. The oldest was done four years ago (infancy in pocket knife longevity terms, I know). So far I haven't dealt with any outgassing, though one or two (out of 50 or so) show some shrinkage.
Has anyone else gone down this road?

I think there have been a few that use epoxy covers, or epoxy for filler.

I like what you are doing there. I haven't seen any outgassing or shrinkage.

I've used acrylic for a number of knives, but nothing that looks like some of these! Where do you get your materials?

I mix up my own epoxy, colouring it with proprietary mica powder, food colouring (unsuccessful) and cornflour for opacity and strength. I used acrylic resin which has a great feel in the hand but won't take a high shine. Epoxy sets up harder for me in Hong Kong's humidity. Both are very easy to cut and shape. The epoxy resists dents and scratches better than acrylic. For 'better' knives I stick with cow bone.

It is obvious that you are good with detailed work, especially with the knives where you patched the broken bone with metal. I can see that your attention to detail applies to new handles as well.
I have bought acrylic pieces for handles before and it works very well, but I have not mixed my own.
I do not expect that you will ever have outgassing problems with either the acrylic or the epoxy, and am surprised that you have experienced any shrinkage with them. They are very stable materials, perfect for knife handles, and (in your case) beautiful works of art!
