Those are nice! I grew up near the Waltham watch factory, and the Howard clock company.

Waltham is 7 jewel, made in 1917. Model 1883, size 18.

WOW! Thought it was way better than the Elgin. The Elgin is 17 jewel watch. We had a old watch maker in our area, when is was close to retiring I took the Elgin in and had him clean it. He was very good. Thanks for the information. I tried to research them, but couldn’t get it done. Seemed like they wanted me to enter into some pay for information deal, Thanks

I got this Watham around 1965. It was my father's brother
watch who retired from the US Post Office and got this watch.
My parents would only allow me to wear the watch on Sundays
and I am glad they did!

I got the face redone probably around 1974 and got a new band
to boot. The watchmaker was a retired FBI agent and had a very
interesting set of stories to tell.

I actually wore it yesterday to work and later a play. It
runs about 2 minutes slow per day. The older german watchmaker
in the area here retired about 3 years ago. I wish I knew about
his upcoming retirement and would have let him do a lube and adjustment.
He studied watch and clock making in Germany after WWII. Very
interesting man.

Anyway, I have about a dozen watches and this is probably my favorite.
The display of seconds is a favorite. I can't remember what that style
is called now .........

Anyone ever seen a Braille wrist watch? Pushing the stem in opens the case so a light fingertip scan of the hands will tell the time. Marking inside says American Foundation for the Blind Inc 17 jewels Swiss.

is sturdy enough for a finger tap without moving the hands to
a different position ( wrong time )

My Father wore one just about everyday. He was totally blind since he was 14 years old. He had some kind of brail writing instrument also and he knew how to use it. He always held a job working for VHMI (Visually Handicapped Managers of Illinois). He also tuned pianos for most of the local schools as a side job.

He would often joke around that he was “Blind in one eye and can’t see out of the other”.

I forgot all about his watch until you posted this. I wish I would have thought to retrieve it when he passed away.

I’ve owned a couple G-Shocks and I like them too. This model GA-800 is the only one I have left but I really like it. I like to use the “Hourly Chime” feature but it drives my wife crazy so I sometimes keep it turned off.

Here's a couple that are very special to me.

This Illinois Bunn Special pocket watch is from 1923 when a fellow by the name of Jacob Bunn owned the Illinois Watch Company in Springfield, Illinois.

I worked for descendants of the same Bunn family in their plant where they currently manufacture beverage equipment. I retired from there in 2023 after 33 years but they gave me this offbrand watch in 2015 for 25 years of service. It's kinda cool to have two watches with the Bunn name on them that were made almost a century apart.

I am sure that blind people would only need to very lightly brush their fingertips against the hands to get the time. None of those thin fragile watch hands there either.
