Unusual Early Robeson Doctor's Knife

The first Robeson knives were imported by Millard Robeson from England and Germany exclusively. This continued from 1979 until 1896 when Robeson began manufacturing knives in the United States. Since inception, the company has gone through several reorganizations & eventually ended up as a Queen Cutlery brand.

Unusual Early Robeson Doctor's Knife

Post by knifeaholic »

Hoping Charlie can weigh in as to the years that these tang stamps were used.

Rare to see a US made knife with the "deep stamp" on the blade as opposed to an etch.

This is a true Doc's knife with the nickel silver butt cap and the spatula blade.

Beautiful old knife and I have seen similar knives with that deep blade etch or stamp or however it was done.

Roger Cunningham has at least one such knife, though with different handles.

Tom Kalcevic dates that tang stamp 1896 to 1899.

I generally accept Tom’s dates. He did rather exhaustive research and had access to company records, former employees, etc.

No one else has come up with a more detailed date designation for Robeson.

If they are off by a few years, does it really matter?

Attempting to reconstruct history retrospectively is a difficult task.

Thanks Charlie; I figured it must be a very early one.

Great find Steve. One of the better examples of a true old physician knife! ::tu:: ::tu::
