Anyone Enjoy Nice Carvings

My wife and I traveled a bit this weekend and on our way to our destination we sopped at the Rock Stop in Philo, Ca. which has become our favorite place to look around as rock hounds. While there I noticed that they had some carved antlers as well as some carved mammoth tusk and elk antlers as weel as carved stones, jade and gemstones. I did not get pictures of the elk or tusk carvings, but I took a picture of an Eagle from Moose Antler Carving and carved humpback whale/Mermaid and those were just magnificent. I do not know what they used for the whale carving. This is the place where I picked up some California Jade slices for some knife projects.

They are a bit expensive, but everything has to be helicoptered in and out, a weekend trip can cost over $8,000.00, Ouch!

Great carvings from even greater country. Excepting the isolation a great place to live. My wife lived in Fort Bragg and Willets attending High School there before we were married. Have driven 128 and the north road many times. I am amazed they let you take pictures. Thank you for showing them and bringing back the memories.

I asked for permission first, there were others that were mighty nice, but stuffed a bit far back to take pictures. I did not want to make a nuisance of myself, so I did not ask to take pictures of these, most were fully carved Elk antlers and quite well done. These that I did take pictures of were out in the open, so they were kind enough to let me take pictures. I was very impressed by the moose antler carving.

ive always wanted to learn to carve like that. do you know any stores that sell wood carving kits of some kind? plus it would be another hobby i could enjoy my knife collection with.
