Very warm, inviting, and aromatic looking, David. You stated in your FCD post that there was leftover candy and cookies, what a shame they will go to waste.dlr110 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 9:28 pm Here are some pictures of some of the goodies just before the party.

Re: Let the decorating begin!
No they won't go to waste. We are taking some to share with our church members that are in assisted living facilities, a couple of friends that couldn't make it. But of course some of it will fine it's way into my cookie jar...Waukonda wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 10:26 pmVery warm, inviting, and aromatic looking, David. Re: Let the decorating begin!
I got my tree out.
We have both a larger one (it's in the living room), as well as this one, which is about 3 feet tall. My grandmother made them probably close to 25 years ago using grapevines.
Still needs some slight repair work, and probably I should change the old incandescent bulbs to LEDs. There's a mix of ornaments I made as craft projects as a kid, ornaments that have been there for years, and a Code 3 Collectibles fire department ornament I got in a diecast lot two years ago. The train is a LEGO set from this year I picked up from Walmart today.

Re: Let the decorating begin!
Looking at the decorating and was reminded of the Christmas tree at the school district maintenance shop where I worked. I wish I had a picture to share.
Seems as our plumber came up with a small artificial tree for the shop, it was about 4 feet tall and he set it up on an old drafting table that was not being used. The plumber and several others on the crew decorated it very nicely with an assortment of colorful, shiny maintenance items. There were round chrome escutcheon plates, red and yellow wire nuts, an old flush valve, several rings made of red and green wire scraps, even a wax ring hanging on the little tree. For some reason, I don’t recall what they put on the top of the tree.
It was well received by all the “big dogs” from the district office as they always enjoyed our venison frying and usually a bag of fresh Apalachicola Bay oysters at Christmas time.Back then a bag cost us $6.00, today a 50 pound bag is about $90.00 and not from Apalachicola.
We had some wonderful Christmas celebrations during the 35 years I worked there.
After New Years when we returned to regular time, the crew would cover the tree with a big garbage bag and wait for our shop’s November Thanksgiving dinner and start all over.

The wife and I took a trip to our state capitol in Pierre (that's pronounced as peer, not pea-air) over the weekend to see the "Christmas at the Capitol". The statehouse is fully decorated with trees by various organizations from all over the state. Especially nice is this 29 and 1/2 foot locally cut tree under the dome.

They've got some serious decorating going on there in "Peer."
Hope you had a good time.

Looks awesome, OC! We haven't made our annual Christmas treks to the National Christmas Tree or MGM/Gaylord Hotel yet, which are usually over-the-top festive.

Christmas 2023 update-
My wife, Brenda, baked 27 dozen Christmas cookies on Friday and Saturday. We put our tree up and decorated the apartment the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Of course, there are trains running under the tree. Ireland supervised and approved the tree immediately.

Nope, "Squid Lips" is in dry dock until April. My December striper fishing days on the cold Atlantic are a thing of the past. Merry Christmas. O'.
