Schrade CUTCO Unusual Handle Color

Post by johns7076 »

At least it is for me. I have never seen one like this. Anyone know anything about it? Found on eBay, sure some other members saw it.

Bone just looks sun bleached to me or the dye has been washed out , Also the pivot pin looks to have been replaced .

Bleached out makes sense. Have never seen one this yellow. Don't think it has been re-scaled. Pin replacement is likely.

I've seen a few like that, even had an old Schrade Cut Co barlow made for Dasco that was a similar color. I think maybe they either didn't have enough time in the dye (which was somewhat similar to wood stain at the time) or the bone is very dense and it didn't absorb as much. Possibly the dye had become too diluted as well. Bleaching is definitely another possibility, especially if it spent time on a truck dashboard.

Peachsead bone pattern although bleached out looks correct but these knives don’t have a pivot pin, they have a riveted bushing that’s not exposed, it’s underneath the bolsters so that’s kinda odd to see … looks to me like the knife has been tampered with.

Checked my other CUTCOs & pivot pin is not exposed. Appears it has been tampered with. Works perfectly. Not a bad knife, not disappointed in the purchase.
