Another minor mudder trip at work. Work on site on Double H mountain range.

First pic is Santa Rosa Range above Orovada, NV.

Second pic is Kings River Valley where the new Lithium Mine that is starting now. Will make my favorite desert valley look like a scene from a Mad Max movie. Not embellishing. They say it holds 25% of the world's lithium.

I have hunted and fished that valley for 26 years. Sad.

Cleaning up with the mower along the creeks yesterday (where I can’t get to with the hay cutter) when up jumped Bambi and bounded off down the creek. A brief search found where she was bedded down, in tall grass and weeds under low-hanging tree branches. Maybe you can see her “bed” in the picture.

Years ago we went to the first 100 in a 100 by BLM. They rounded up 100 wild horses off the plains to 100 trainers who had 100 days to train them and then show them in Ft Worth. On the whole very smart horses.
Of the top 10 one was trained in dressage, a couple worked cattle, one did trick riding and cowboy action shooting and I can't remember the rest. Then they were auctioned off. It was a wonderful 3 day event. I've had a greater respect for wild horses since then. Pardon my rambling.

No worries doglegg. You are not rambling. I found your reply very interesting and informative.
When a larger group/ herd are seen, it is an amazing sight. Even Mother and foal like I pictured. Unfortunately, rancher don't care for them as they compete with grazing cows for pasture.
Don't know all the details but they even have BLM roundups and make it super difficult to adopt one. That's the government for you.

We have wild burros here as well. Pic taken on way up to Trident Peak. Amazing country. First pic has the young baby partially visible.

Haven't posted any deer pictures lately. Each week I view pictures from 3 trail cameras and get to see a lot of interesting things. The bucks shed their antlers several weeks ago and are now starting to show antler growth. If they will stay around the feeder it should be interesting to observe the rapid antler growth, however the bucks will probably fade from the scene until late summer. They usually show up for a time or two and then ramble as a batchlor group feeding on the lush summer browse. There are 2 bucks that may be mature enough to have decent racks. Neither one looks really old, no belly, still looking like a race horse but they are as different as night and day. One has a white face and the other has a sorrel colored face. They seem to be staying together and hopefully they will let us see antler growth for several months.

I was supposed to spend the day tarring and repairing the barn roof, but I got drafted into separating, tagging and banding calves.

A bit disappointed but not surprised, the 2 bucks that were beginning to show antler growth didn't show up for this week's pictures. However there was a couple of interesting consecutive pictures from this past Tuesday a little after 12 pm:

The Misses and I did a 4 mile hike around Old Town Alexandria this morning, followed by a 13.5 mile bike ride on the Indian Head Rail Trail. Saw 2 black snakes, they're definitely on the move. Second bike ride together this year, next time we're riding from Old Town to Reagan National or maybe into DC.

Doing 12 ounce Modelo curls today with the dogs and light house/maintenance duties. Smoking a reverse sear Tri-tip for eating like an animal on side of mountain this week at work.

I have not been following this thread for a while. It is very nice to see what you fellows are up to.

Jerry, I am kind of surprised that the lithium mine is going to actually happen. I figured that the environmentalists would block it. Back before I retired I worked on some projects that I hated to see built ... except that they paid my pay check.

The feeder photos are pretty cool, Treefarmer. I like the bobcat.

It is also tribal land as well. I love the outdoors and that particular valley. The tree huggers came from Oregon in two gas powered SUVs and posed for a picture by their vehicles. Followed by an essay that "humans are engineered to walk, we don't need cars". Yet 2 people drove from Oregon drove solo there on the almighty evil oil. What? Not kidding.They are even adverse to electric cars now, while driving their ICE cars still.
They protested. Climbed on earth moving equipment. Yada Yada.

That valley holds a thistle that only 14 acres exist in the world. 5 acres were dug up/ removed. 5000 dollar reward. Wonder where it went.
Some morons wanting to save it not thinking the reason it is there. Lithium based soil. Got that in your average backyard?
They destroyed it thinking they were saving it. Foolish.
So, mental misfits versus big government. Who wins.
We all lose a jewel in the desert. That is a fact.

It's a short season just spring TF but they are delicious with all fish but especially with native brook trout
