Schrade Pre-1970

is what his ad said. I bought it. Now I'm wondering how far back from 1970 it actually does date?

Wullie.. trully u need Dale or LRV answering this.
My open stock sheet shows it to be from 1952 to 1983.
But the later decades like 70-83 were prolly numbered 1361SHA
so yours IS most likely prior to 70

Judging by the rattail bolster I'd say it's definitely '52-'71, I believe they changed to a straight bolster in 1972.

The 1361SHA # actually dates to pre-1952, actually 1932-1952. In the Cut. Co. years up to 1947 (possibly a couple of years after) there were actually three versions of this knife; the 1361SHA which as the number suggests had a shackle, and was considered a linemen's skinning knife, the 1361, which was exactly the same minus the shackle, and was considered a large pruning knife, and the N1361, which had an identical handle (with no shackle), but instead of the hawkbill blade was equiped with a square point (or blunt sheepfoot) blade and was considered a rope or hawser knife.

Eric covered it pretty well.
The Schrade Walden stamp was discontinued in 1973.
I do believe Eric is correct on the bolster change.
The pic in the 1972 Shortline shows the straight bolster & the 1971 shows the rat tail bolster.
