Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

John, at least your not an Indians, er...uh Guardians fan, and still wearing a 1948 WS hat! Not that you were alive back in '48.

Nice hat David!

🤔 I wonder what a 1948 Injuns WS Champion hat would sell for?

Nice hat David - your daughter done good!

Here's mine, a gift from me, to me! ::facepalm:: I couldn't wait for Christmas, bought it the day after they won the Series. I wanted one in Rangers blue, but mine doesn't have as much bling on it as yours.

Winter Meetings begin. But I don't expect the Nats to do anything.

Having coffee and donuts counts as doing something, probably waiting for youngsters to develop and are looking to 2025.

Maybe Stone Garrett will come.back from his injury and share some of the offensive load with Ruiz. Kieboom never materialized and they have some ancient arms on the pitching staff......they need to spend a bunch of money for instant results.

Shohei Ohtani signs with Dodgers for $700M/10-yr contract!

Interestingly, the highest paid baseball player in the USA is a Japanese national who signed his record breaking contract two days after Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (82 years and 2 days after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor). ::hmm::

It's really stupid to spend that much on one player.
The Angels had him and Mike Trout.

It's like they are paying him $35m to pitch and $35m as a DH. He has already had arm trouble twice, so if he isn't able to pitch any time over the next 10 years, they will be paying $70 for a DH. He probably wouldn't have gone to a NL team if the NL had not adopted the DH.

Exactly the reason why the players wanted a universal DH. Made for twice as many teams they could sign with. ::facepalm:: ::hmm::

Seems to me these outlandish contracts invariably end up one way. After a few years the recipient is either injured or aged and can no longer perform to the level they were when they signed. And the team who signed them blames the contract/player, saying they can’t be competitive because they can't afford to sign any other good players.

Apparently the Dodgers dodged that by structuring Ohtani’s contract with significant deferred money.

Doling out big money didn't work so well for the Mets last season.

I see that the Giants answer to Ohtani going to their hated rivals, was to sign a Korean superstar. The NL West will be interesting next season.

It will be interesting to see what Soto brings to the Yankees. As for the Nats, . . .

In the last year....Nats/losing record, Wizards/losing record, Commanders/losing record, DC United/losing record. Hey, at least you have the Caps!!!!!

As for baseball 2024, Soto and the Yanks is just one of the many scenarios that will be interesting to watch after all the trades and International signings. One story which hasn't gotten a lot of attention, but is intriguing to me, is the Giants plan to convert Jordan Hicks to a starter.

I like the simplicity of the minor leagues. This will be our ~6th season as partial season ticket holders to the Inland Empire 66ers, an Angels affiliate. We go to home nighttime games, as it gets too hot to sit for day games.

I suspect some of those big salaried folks being discussed receive more in a game or two than the entire 66ers bench and coaching staff make all season.

And for really fun to watch baseball, I tune into thd Little League World Series to see some amazing baseball.

Jeepergo it’s great that you have a minor league team you enjoy. Minor league teams play some great baseball, and the teams try hard to create entertainment for the whole family. In the days before the MLB Rangers came to this area we had the minor league Dallas Eagles and Fort Worth Cats, then the Dallas-Ft. Worth Spurs. It was fun to watch those teams and watch some of the players move up to MLB.

I enjoy baseball regardless of the level - little league through MLB. Our local high school team is always good and typically makes it several rounds into the state championship playoffs at the end of their regular season. At that level sustained success is a function of coaching and tradition - you play with what you’ve got! It’s fun watching kids you know play the game, including moving on to college and even MLB.

Good article about one of my all time favorite players, Adrian Beltre. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/393 ... rs-red-sox

Today will be the last day of his life that he’s not a MLB Hall of Fame member. ::tu:: Beltre was a delight to watch play the game because not only was he a great talent, he had fun while he was at it.
