New find. 1900-1916 Jack. Looking for info

The first Robeson knives were imported by Millard Robeson from England and Germany exclusively. This continued from 1979 until 1896 when Robeson began manufacturing knives in the United States. Since inception, the company has gone through several reorganizations & eventually ended up as a Queen Cutlery brand.

New find. 1900-1916 Jack. Looking for info

Post by timber22 »

I picked up 10 knives this week, including this sweet Robeson. I'm really happy to have it. My first old Robeson. Very tight with great snap in all three positions on both blades.
No real damage except a bit of a rough edge on the main blade.
I'm not at all an expert on Robeson, so maybe you guys here can shed some light on this for me, or confirm what I have. I'm still learning.
The Robeson / CO. / Cutlery tang stamp indicates it dates from 1900 - 1916. Correct?
The number appears to be 62629. I originally thought the last digit was a 3 but I think it is a 9.
The first digit 6 refers to the handle/scale material - Bone, Rough Jigged Black Plastic, Jigged Delrin. Correct?
The second digit 2 refers to the knife having 2 blades.
The third digit 6 indicates the liner and bolster material - Iron liner and bolster or iron bolster. It definitely appears to have Brass liner.
The last two digits 29 indicate the pattern. I don't know what 29 means. It's definitely a jack, but not sure if Robeson would have called this a "swell end" or something else.
Thanks. Any feedback is appreciated.

Update. I was looking at the tang stamp on the secondary blade because the stamp on the primary blade is heavily worn. I am now aware that I have to use the primary blade stamp for dating/aging. Based on what I see. I believe this knife dates to 1911-1921.
