Gunstock CPM-154 and Vintage Micarta

Post by ashwinearl »

Again, I hope it is ok to post these here. Another Gunstock from pattern I adapted from others online, specifically an Ohta. If anyone wants the drawing in PDF or in SVG format (drawn initially in inkscape) let me know.

CPM-154, Vintage Micarta scales, SS bolsters, liners, shield, pin, Bronze washers. 3 5/8" closed

If you are interested in end-to-end build along with tons of pictures/descriptions on process, I did one Build alonghere at Reddit as an experiment. My intention is to redo it into forum format and then into pdf.

I enjoyed your detail of the build on Reddit. It’s a very attractive knife as well. You must be a patient person.
So the rocker pin is pre-domed, not peened in and held only by friction?

Yes, pre domed. I did put a drop of super glue on each side, but it didn't really seem to flow into the joint. There is a video on you tube of a guy that trained with Luke Swenson. He glues the middle pin and does not peen it. see 17:10 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Dwo1Jh ... Tn&index=6

In Luke Swenson's DVD he does the pre doming.

Another approach is to use pin spinners, where downward pressure from mill or drill press with spinning attachment cuts in the dome while at the same time squeezeing and creating a rivet like head.

you can also just pin, peen, grind just like the other front and rear ones.
