tax

Post by pearlgearl »

Is there a way to search all my aapk sales to see which ones are from the state of Texas. I live and operate in the state of Texas and must pay taxes on any sales within the state. Texas has received my tax from paypal and wants to tax me on all sales even those outside the state. It would be great to get a full accounting of within state sales.

hi Pearlgearl,

AAPK does not currently have a feature that can do this. I've read that PayPal users have been able to fairly quickly achieve what you are trying to do by downloading transaction history information for the desired time-frame & then using excel or google sheets to sort.

More specifically:

Download Transaction History from PayPal:
  1. Log into your PayPal account.
  2. Go to the 'Activity' section.
  3. Use the date range filters to select the timeframe relevant to your sales.
  4. Look for an option to download your transaction history, usually found as 'Download' or 'Export'. Choose a format compatible with Excel (like CSV).
Importing Data into Excel or Google Sheets:
  1. Open Excel or Google Sheets.
  2. Import the downloaded file. In Excel, you can do this by opening a new workbook and selecting 'Data' > 'From Text/CSV'. In Google Sheets, open a new sheet and go to 'File' > 'Import'.
Sorting Data by State:
  1. Once your data is in the spreadsheet, locate the column that contains shipping addresses.
  2. Use the 'Find and Select' feature in Excel, found in the 'Home' tab's upper right corner. In Google Sheets, you can use 'Edit' > 'Find and Replace'.
  3. Enter the abbreviation for Texas (TX). This will highlight or bring up all rows where Texas is mentioned in the shipping address.
Filtering and Summarizing:
  1. You can further refine this by using Excel or Google Sheets' filtering options to only display these rows.
  2. Sum up the total sales for these entries to get the amount that is subject to Texas state taxes.
Hope this helps ::tu::

so, I created the file and opened it in Excel but there was no address information column. I talked to Ebay support and they say that there should be a button or something that allows you to choose to add that information but that button is not there for me. I basically wanted to check the taxes that state is charging me. To alleviate this issue in the future I just added state sales taxes to my store for the state of Texas. However, I am wondering now who does the reporting? Is it AAPK that would issue that information to state of Texas or is it paypal? We knew that there would be taxes and that is not a big issue I just like to fully understand how the whole thing works rather than just paying the bill. I sold x $ of knives and it seemed that the state of Texas may have charged me taxes on all knives sold when I believe that the tax should be only all knives sold in the state of Texas or any other place where I have a business presence or what they call Nexus those states should be able to tax me as well if I have that Nexus

For sales to states where you have a nexus, you would be responsible for collecting & paying the tax. For sales to states where you do not have a nexus, the buyer is technically responsible for paying the tax.
