What Was This Old Henkels Utility Knife Used For?

Post by Lama »

I guess I'd call this old Henkels a multitool or utility knife, but hoping someone who knows more than me might share the proper name it. I'm also wondering about its age and use, particularly what the angular tool might have been used for. I figure it's some kind of pick or scraper, but what it's meant to pick or scrape is beyond me.

Nose-picking tool? ::shrug:: :lol: :lol:

I have no clue what the intended purpose of that angular tool is/was (a scribe, perhaps?), but it seems like it could be useful for a number of things. One of those little tools you don't know you need until the need arises...then you wonder how you ever lived without it.

Very cool knife...I like it! 8) ::tu::

That curved implement made me think of a typesetters blade.

You could really get it up there to thoroughly scrap out the sinuses with its length and bends. I think it might give me a headache though. ::hmm::

On a more serious note, there is a sharp pointy pick or awl beside it, and a heavier ream on the bottom with the little screw driver and small cork puller. There's also what I think is a wire stripper on the large screw driver beside the mystery pick. The other end of the knife has a nice large pointy file, as well as two cutting blades. The smaller of which may have been a spey blade.

Guess it will remain a mystery for the time being.

Hmm, typesetting... Yeah, that blade could be for sorting small things.

Possibly a short marlinspike?

Maxam uses a quite similar design on their Sailor Tool

It would be a great help untying knots or possibly splicing rope. I think it was made for some specialized trade or work with its tool set.
