Anyway to loosen screws that have glue or locktight?

I just bought a new Browning knife, I tried to open it, EVERY single screw is stuck. I don't want to apply too much force as I only have one chance. If I slip and strip the screw, I have to drill it out. That would be bad.

It has G10 scale, I afraid to use acetone or other stuffs to try to soften and loosen the screws. Anyone has idea how to do it?

First try leaving a drop of WD-40 on each screw head for a few hours, then see i f you can loosen them. Second, try heating them up with a heat gun first. Good luck..

I knew your were going to suggest the heat gun, Herb. Stick with what works.

Alan I'm curious as to why you would want to take a new knife apart?

I think Loc Tite requires heat around or just higher than 250 degrees to loosen up.

Penetrating oil or WD 40 won't do a damn thing to loosen Locktite. There are different Locktites and they loosen at different temperatures. If you're worried about heat you can use a soldering iron and put the tip right on the screw head, should loosen it up.

I agree with orvet about the soldering iron. Also, assuming you can hold on to the knife and have some support under it, it sometimes helps to tap the end of the screwdriver handle while applying downward and turning pressure. This acts kind of like an impact wrench. Good luck! - John
