Hi Randy,

Try holding the handle firmly in one hand, and the blade with the other, and slowly opening and closing the knife. Sometimes that reveals hidden stampings.

no luck at all. i can count six from right to left.the sixth one is at the end of the S in case. there should be 3 or 4 more out to the beginning of the C. But I cant give anyone a definite answer unless I can see it for myself.

Hi RandyReloader, ::welcome:: to APPK

If your knife has the canoe etch on the blade, it is a 1974 or newer.
Case started with 10 dots in 1970 and removed one each year thereafter. The arrangement of the dots was kept as semetrical as possible as the dots were removed so that on even year knives there are an equal number of dots to the left and to the right of center of the letters U.S.A. If there are an uneven number of dots, there will be one more to the left side than to the right side of center. The letter "S" and the period following it are the center point to guage by. If the knife only had two dots, one would be below the letter "S" and the other below the dot beside the "S"

If you can post a photo with a close up shot of the tang showing the dots that are visible, I think there are some folks here that may be of further assistance to you.

Looks to me like there ought to be 10 dots all totaled. I can see five dots to the right of center, so I'm thinking there should be five more on the left side of center.

Let's see what some of the serious Case guys have to say though. ::shrug::

Looks like a 1975 model to me. Nice knife. ::tu::

Check back in. There are members here who know a heck of a lot more about Case knives than I do. Hopefully some of them will put in their two cents worth in on that canoe. :)

Randy - I can see your dad's knife, looks great - I also saw the high pixel version upload the first time I checked, now its gone. Try posting it again - the thing about this system, it doesn't give you a lot of feedback and it may seem like something has gone awry, but in fact the picture is getting uploaded fine. Some smart Case collectors will probably show up soon to clear up the dot mystery.

Can your crop the picture down to just the tang stamp to get the pixels down?

On the canoe there are two possibilities either 9 or 10 dots. Can you show a pic to the far left side of the dots, even if you can't see dots?? If not without pulling the blade (which I would not do) you'll just have to settle for 1970 or 1971.
