Black Hills blizzard of '84
In April of '84 three of my colleagues and I decided after a regional staff meeting in Scottsbluff, NE we should set up a guided turkey hunt in the Black Hills. On the way from Oklahoma to Scotts Bluff, I stopped at a Cabela's along the way for turkey load shotshells. While there I noticed a Buck 110 knock-off build your own kit and figured why not give it a try. The evening we arrive at the campsite the worst snowstorm I've ever been in started. The guide shows up around 10 or so and says not gonna be able to do a morning hunt and he would get back with us around noon the next day. Snowed all night and continued for the next three days. Luckily one of my colleagues had packed plenty of Wild Turkey Bourbon and I had the knife kit to keep my hands busy. The fourth day we were able to go out, didn't see a tom one, heard a few though. That evening we were finishing off the last of the bourbon when one of the fellas said "screw this, I'm shooting a hen tomorrow", that's when we knew no more bourbon for Russ. Supposedly, that year was the third most snowfall for the Black Hills region. No meat from that trip, but a great memory, and still have that kit knife (pictured).

Great story, and memento of the trip!
