LB8 - Were any of the LB8 knives mad in the US?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

LB8 - Were any of the LB8 knives mad in the US?

Post by Bloodhound »

I had posted before that I had purchased a USA Schrade LB7 with a serial number. I had intended to keep it, but at a gunshow last month I ran into an old friend and ended up giving it to him.

A week or so later, I was looking in a pawn shop and ran across an LB8 Uncle Henry and while it didn't have a box/case/sheath, it was in really great condition and the price was right...I looked it over with a very careful eye and I cannot find any indication of country of origin. The tang reads "Uncle Henry" in script and "0821" The other side just reads "LB8" It has stagalon scales and it is very stiff to open. It is unsharpened. I normally don't buy a Schrade unless it is stammped USA, but the price and condition was right so it came home with me.

Is there any chance it was made in the USA? It sure doesn't have that feel of quality like my Schrade LB7s but...

PS: I also weakened and bought another USA LB7 with a serial number...While I do not regret giving the first knife to an old friend, I do need to have a least one with a serial number...The latest one is serialed Z46647...It ias some a few finish marks but it is really solid!

My Uncle Henry LB8 is marked USA. If it is not marked USA, I would think not.

I think you answered your own question but I’m sure it will serve you well as an EDC

Thank you...I think I'll find a sheath for it and it can go on the table at the next show. I have 3 LB7 knives in different packs and gear bags and I have a Buck 110 in the truck. Its a nice looking knife and I can give someone a great deal :D

Same question here. Trying to figure out if I’ve got a sort-of real USA Schrade. Smokey Mountain Knife Works recently advertised what they call an “SCH9” for sale. These knives have stag handles and otherwise look like they should. SMKW claims they were originally made in the Schrade USA factory before it closed and got bought out. The only thing special about them was that they didn’t have the handles installed, so they were shipped off to the factory in China for final assembly. The tang stamp reads “HERITAGE Schrade +”, and barely visible below that is “USA”. The opposite side of the tang reads “H070”. I’m not sure what I’ve got here - any ideas???

There were lots of blades left over when Schrade closed. There have been a number of knives and blades that were sent to China to be assembled, including some of the rubber handled fish knives.
I have a number of Heritage blades myself that were picked up from eBay and SMKW primarily. I think Blue Ridge also had some knife parts for sale.

To address the question posed by the OP, all of the knives made at the Schrade Factory in Ellenville, were stamped USA. There may be a few odd exceptions to that, but 99.9% do have USA stamped on them.
