It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a VOOS, one blade, one tang stamp, 3" closed, all metal, advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "VOOS (over) MADE IN (over) U.S.A." The main handle side says, "AUTOMOTIVE PARTS COMPANY - M' F' RS, Hy-Duty COOLING FANS - MASS. AVE. AT FAN ST. INDIANAPOLIS" The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. This is my fifth VOOS, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. This is my first VOOS, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, business, product, event, etc. Overall, this is my seventeenth advertising, fob or key ring pocket knife, that is this particular pattern or style. My other sixteen advertising, fob or key ring pocket knives, in this particular pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted under this topic or thread. This pocket knife is yet another piece of evidence POSSIBLY linking VOOS to Whitehead & Hoag. The blade has a couple of issues. But, this pocket knife is still in FAIR condition. I did give it a cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

The other handle side says, "6% ON SAVINGS" This is my second W & H pocket knife that advertises this particular business, company, product, event, organization, etc. My other W & H, NEW HOME S & L. ASS'N. pocket knife, was previously posted under this topic or thread on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition and needed very little cleaning. The main blade front tang stamp is the curved or arched style stamp, WITHOUT the USA in the center. It says, "THE W & H CO (over) NEWARK, NJ" The secondary blade front tang stamp is also the curved or arched style stamp, WITHOUT the USA in the center. It also says, "THE W & H CO (over) NEWARK, NJ" The main handle side says, "DESHLER AND - WALLICK HOTELS - COLUMBUS, OHIO" It also has a company logo or emblem that has the letter "D" in the center, flanked by two animal figures. The other handle side says, "1000 ROOMS 1000 BATHS - SENSIBLE PRICES" This is my first, W & H pocket knife, that advertises this particular business, company, product, event, etc. The main blade has no half stop, but it has a VERY GOOD opening snap and a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade also has no half stop, but it has an ok opening snap and an ok closing snap. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. No cleaning was needed. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

With just a basic Google search, there are PLENTY of images, PLENTY of information, and PLENTY of items to be found regarding the Deshler-Wallick Hotel. The last two pictures have to do with the DESHLER-WALLICK HOTEL itself.
The following information tidbit is per Wikipedia.....
"The Deshler Hotel, also known as the Deshler-Wallick Hotel, was a hotel building in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. The hotel was located at Broad and High Streets, the city's 100 percent corner. Announced in 1912 and opened by John G. Deshler in 1916, the hotel originally had 400 rooms, intended to rival the other luxury hotels of the world. The hotel was later leased by Lew and Adrian Wallick, hoteliers from Ohio and New York. Called the Deshler-Wallick Hotel by the time the LeVeque Tower opened, its then-1,000 rooms were accessible by a "venetian bridge" linking the two buildings on the second floor. New York Mayor Jimmy Walker, who attended the opening, tried and nearly succeeded in having a ceremonial sip of wine in each of the 600 hotel rooms. The hotel would later host President Harry S. Truman in 1946 during a meeting of the Federal Council of Churches of Christ. He and Bess Truman would later stay at the hotel again in 1953. In 1947 the hotel sold to Julius Epstein of Chicago, apparently for $2 million, who again sold it five years later to the Hilton Hotels chain, which renamed the hotel the Deshler-Hilton. In 1964 it was sold to a company owned by Charles Cole who renamed it the Deshler-Cole. Cole eliminated the 600 rooms located inside LeVeque Tower and invested $2 million to remodel the hotel. This is my first CUTTER, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, business, product, event, etc. Overall, this is my eighteenth advertising, fob or key ring pocket knife, that is this particular pattern or style. Nine DO HAVE a W & H tang stamp and nine DO NOT HAVE a W & H tang stamp. My other seventeen advertising, fob or key ring pocket knives, in this particular pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted under and throughout this topic or thread. If the blade is original to this pocket knife, then it is a piece of evidence POSSIBLY linking a yet, still unknown, knife or cutlery manufacturing company to the Whitehead & Hoag Company. "In September, 1913, the officers of the American Serum Company began producing and distributing serum and vaccines for use by the farmers in this territory. Since that date there are few men engaged in live stock production in the Sioux City trade territory who have not at some time used the products of the American Serum Co. T. B. Huff is president and treasurer, while J. M. Klas is Plant of American Serum Co. secretary. About 30 people are employed on an average the entire year producing over a quarter of a million dollars worth of serums and vaccines. The products handled are anti-hog cholera serum, hog cholera virus, swine mixed infection bacterin, blackleg aggressin, hemorrhagic septicemia bacterin (for cattle, sheep and swine), and all other animal bacterins and vaccines as well as liquid worm expeller. They also handle an extensive and complete line of vaccinating instruments. The main handle side says "Old Master - COFFEE" The other side says nothing, it is blank. The main blade front tang stamp, is the curved or arched style, WITH the "USA" in the middle. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK NJ" This is my third W & H pocket knife that advertises this particular product, company, business or event. However, this is my first W & H pocket knife that advertises this particular product, company, business or event, that is in this particular pattern or style. In fact, this W & H pocket knife, is my VERY FIRST, that is in this "waiter" or "bartender" pattern or style. My other two W & H, "Old Master" pocket knives, were previously posted, by me, under this topic or thread. The first one was posted back on November 5, 2021 and the second one was posted back on July 28, 2022. The main blade has a soft half stop, a GOOD opening snap and a GOOD closing snap. The two tools function properly, without any issues. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It needed NO cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

"Arriving in Los Angeles from the Midwest in 1895, Sylvester Laflin Weaver followed a common trajectory. While he wasn't a Joad escaping farm foreclosure—his namesake maternal grandfather was a prosperous gunpowder manufacturer in St. Louis with old New England roots—the good-looking Weaver, lean, red-headed, and blunt, did in short order work his way up from the factory floor to owning his own very large roofing company. As the Times described him in one of its "Sketches of Big Men in Industrial Life" published at the time of his move to Fremont Place, he also devoted tremendous energy to create modern Los Angeles. While part of a patriarchy later excoriated for exercising its prerogatives, it remains a fact that men like Weaver shaped modern urban America. As a tireless civic booster, Sylvester Weaver served a number of stints as president of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and, later, headed the All-Year Club, Southern California's national tourism promotion organization. In whatever group he became involved, it was unusual for him not to lead it; while he was merely on the board of directors of the Boy Scouts, he served terms as president of the Los Angeles Rotary Club and as director of both the California Development Association and the Better America Federation. As director of his own family, he was no slouch. He married and had four children, who appear to have been inspired by example. His son Sylvester Barnabee Weaver—later, perhaps in tribute to his father, styled as Sylvester L. Weaver Jr., and better known as Pat—became a hard-driving businessman himself; as an advertising executive in radio and president of NBC from 1953 to 1955, he is credited with creating the Today and Tonight shows, among other innovations in broadcasting. Pat's brother, whose real first name among five altogether was Winstead but who became known as the actor and comedian Doodles Weaver, had a considerable career but overall seems to have struggled in the big shadows of the other males in his family. Sylvester's granddaughter by Pat carried the family torch of accomplishment into a third generation as the actress Sigourney Weaver, who, born Susan, reversed the trademark family quirk of simplifying names. Before graduating to Fremont Place, the Weavers—the Los Angeles originator Sylvester, Amabel, whom he'd married in Santa Barbara County in 1902, and their four children, neatly planned, girl, boy, girl, boy—were living in a bungalow at what is now 1811 South Norton Avenue, a house still there and in excellent repair (perhaps owing to a Weaver Roof) with a very tall palm in front, one perhaps even planted by the family. Number 87 Fremont Place was nevertheless a considerable step up from Norton Avenue near Washington Boulevard. City records cite a build date for the new house of 1923; while it is not clear as to whether Weaver commissioned the house himself, no doubt supplying the best of roofs, or bought one built on spec, social notes in the Times describe the family as being in residence at 87 at least by February 1924. There Mrs. Weaver entertained while her husband continued to roof and boost the city and young Sylvester went east to Dartmouth. The family would remain at 87 until not long after Amabel—exact diminutive unknown—died on March 16, 1939. A year later, on April 25, 1940, Rosemary Weaver was married to Paul Fritz, with a reception held at 87. Not long after, with his wife gone and children grown, Sylvester left Fremont Place and moved downtown to the Jonathan Club, where he had the distinction of being the holder of membership number 1."

"Saturday of last week was the fourteenth anniversary of the inception of the Weaver Roof Company, and to mark the occasion, the founder of the business, Sylvester L. Weaver, and his associates enjoyed a dinner and entertainment at the Elk's Club. As Master of Ceremonies and Toastmaster, Mr. Weaver was afforded an opportunity to warmly welcome his coworkers with a talk in which co-operation was the dominant theme. There was a lively discussion of the plans for the expansion of the Company's business, so that all concerned could carry on with the firm conviction that the Weaver Roof Company is destined to hold its place in the vanguard of Los Angeles industries, serving the entire Pacific Coast of North and South America, and its increasing trade overseas. Speeches in connection with the progress of the business were made by Wm. Fletcher, Production Manager of the Weaver Roof Company's plant, as well as Mr. C. H. Benton of San Diego; W. B. Koehler; H.F. Boesche; Wm. Gaston and Robert Pompey. Quite a few of the assembled diners were with the company the first day it started business. Entertainers drawn from various theaters provided diversion during the dinner and the evening."

Very recently, my visit to the post office produced this W & H, cattleman, pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, two blades, one tool (a punch or awl), two tang stamps, 3 1/2" closed, long blade pull, all metal, cattleman, pattern or style of pocket knife. This pocket knife does have some weight to it. The two tang stamps are the curved or arched style, WITHOUT the USA in the middle. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) NEWARK, N.J." The secondary blade back tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO. (over) NEWARK, N.J." The main handle side has, on the left side, a logo or symbol of a cross inside a circle. Then it says, "2ND ANNUAL - SAFETY DAY - 1927 - MORGANTOWN W. VA." On the right side is an image of a miner wearing breathing apparatus and holding, what looks like, a lantern, a gas detector, or a.....? This is only the fourth W & H, cattleman, pattern or style of pocket knife that I have ever SEEN. The first one was posted, under this topic or thread, by AAPK member, Pile Driver. He posted it back on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. This is my third W & H, cattleman, pattern or style of pocket knife that I now have in my collection. However, this is only my second, INTACT example of a W & H cattleman, pattern or style of pocket knife. My BROKEN, W & H, cattleman, pattern or style of pocket knife, was previously posted under this topic or thread, on Sunday, July 2, 2023. My other INTACT, W & H, cattleman, pattern or style of pocket knife, was previously posted under this topic or thread, on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. This is my first, W & H, cattleman, pattern or style of pocket knife, that advertises this particular event, company, organization, business, product, etc. The main blade of this pocket knife has a WEAK half stop, but a GOOD opening snap and a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade also has a WEAK half stop, but it does have a GOOD opening snap and a GOOD closing snap. The tool opens and closes properly, without any issues. So again the question arises. What cutlery company or knife company manufactured, or at the very least, had a hand in the manufacturing of this pattern or style of pocket knife? Again, I do not know. But the hunting and the investigating enthusiastically continues. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is. Believe me, my crappy pictures do NOT do this BEAUTY any justice!

Just doing a basic Google search, I did NOT find any information
regarding the 2ND ANNUAL, 1927, MORGANTOWN SAFETY DAY event.
Obviously, it had something to do with mining safety.

Really nice example Skip! The full spear with swaging and the full still intact sheepfoot are great. I like a cattleman knife and this is a fine example.

I did find 1925 was the deadliest year reported in coal mining which makes you think 1926 would be the first and your knife 1927 the second year following as the start of the Safety Day.

Yesterday afternoon, my trip to the post office produced this advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/32" closed, all metal, advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It has the curved or arched style of tang stamp, WITH the USA in the center. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK, NJ" The main handle side says, "THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO - NEWARK, N.J., U.S.A." The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. This is my ninth, W & H, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, business, product, event, etc. My other eight, "THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO." pocket knives, six with the same body type or style as this pocket knife being posted and two with a different body type or style than this pocket knife being posted, have ALL been previously posted under and throughout this topic or thread. The blade has a SOFT half stop, with a GOOD opening snap and a GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. I did have to give it a very minor cleaning. This pocket knife did come with an advertising key ring and a short length of chain. The key ring says, "DEXTRI-MALTOSE - NOS. 1, 2 AND 3"

There is PLENTY of information and there are PLENTY of images to be found on the internet,
regarding The Whitehead & Hoag Company itself and the advertising items that were available.
But, as far as the W & H advertising pocket knives are concerned, per GOINS....."c 1870-1959 Whitehead
& Hoag was founded in 1870. They went out of business about 1959. This was an advertising specialties firm;
the knives were made for them by a variety of cutlery manufacturers." I have been thinking, for some time
now, that GOINS may NOT be entirely, 100% accurate in their description. Again, I do have a theory about this,
but I still have no hard evidence to support it. Not yet anyway. Stay tuned, hopefully there will be more to follow.....

The tang stamp is the curved or arched style, WITH the USA in the middle. The main blade front tang stamp says "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK NJ" The main handle side says "COMPLIMENTS OF - I. R. H. A. - 1924" It also says "PATENTED" above the loop or ring. The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. This is my second W & H pocket knife that advertises this particular company, business, product, event, organization, etc. My other W & H, "I. R. H. A." pocket knife was posted back on Friday, April 21, 2023. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife needed very little cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

I happened across one of these today. Thanks to this post, my hunch was correct. It is a special little knife! Any idea on what these go for? I’ve just been selling random 5 lb lots for 15-30$. No holds bar. Everything from Ka-Bar, to Kershaw, to crappy made in China souvenir keychain knives. I box em up and sell on MERCARI. I’ve learned so much! Anyways, here’s a few photos…


I have no use for it, and it would cost less than a buck for me to mail it. If anyone wants it, lmk! I’m happy to give it to someone who will appreciate the historic value!
