Canal Barge Kutmaster

Post by eveled »

Found this on Ebay. For $1 + $7.95 shipping

It was listed as “Knife and Sheath”. Not very descriptive.
My bottom feeding trick is when I have a few minutes to kill. I’ll search “knife”. It returns about a billion results. Sort by ending soonest and start scrolling. This one had 20 minutes to go with no bids. It looked interesting so I bid the minimum.

It looks unused, Sway Back shape, the fully serrated blade is unusual, blade and sheath are marked Canal Barge . The handle is plastic. The bail is sized generously to say the least. I’d call it a rope knife.

I was surprised when I searched Canal Barge it’s exactly that. A company that moves freight on barges in canals based in New Orleans. Silly me, I was expecting it to be a micro brewery or something.

So now I’m wondering if it is actually something they issue to the workers? The sheath is really sturdy and it would be a dandy emergency rope knife.

This is the perfect example of why I search that way. Sometimes you get lucky and find a poorly written title. If they had listed UTICA or KUTMASTER I bet more people would’ve bid.

Anyway if anyone has more info on the knife or Canal Barge co. I’d love to hear it.

Nice score! Some eBay sellers are better than others, but that allows bargains to be found. ::nod::
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

I have owned a number of those Kutmaster rope knives, some serrated edge, some plain edge.

Here is one that I sold recently on eBay:

You'll se a lot of various brands of rope knives with WALL ROPE advertising.

This one also has PT JUDITH FISHERMANS COOP etched on back of the blade - Point Judith is a coastal town in Rhode Island.

Nice find!
I also check for deals the same way on eBay. Usually I find nothing, but sometimes there is a hidden gem. You have to hit it at just the right time.

Out of curiosity. Did any of them have a sheath like mine? Wondering if they are something Canal Barge ordered special.

No; not on mine. Your sheath is interesting since it has the logo on it.
